One thing that I loved about Reach, was that there was an advantage to being in crouch while shooting. For those who don’t know, there is less bloom. I really liked this because it gave a reason to set up in a marksman position, and use your precision weapon for its true use. Also, it seems a bit more “real” (I know realism isn’t a priority in Halo games) that you are crouched in a stabilized position to make your shots more accurate.
In Halo 4, I would really like for this to return in some way, shape, or form. I know that not all weapons have bloom, but if there was a way to give an advantage to those weapons without bloom while crouched, it should be implemented. It makes it so that the player who is set up and ready to defend his area/objective has an advantage over the enemy who runs up carelessly and starts shooting.
What do you think? Should it return? And if so, what advantage should be given to crouched shooters with bloomless weapons?
EDIT: A lot of people think that this feature somehow adds to camping. I don’t see how people think it encourages hiding and camping. This works at ranged distances. If anything, the crouching that hides you on radar is more of a camper thing than what I am saying. The times when this works is when you are at a distance shooting someone who doesn’t see you yet. Ex. when Invasion on Boneyard starts and the Spartans are up top with the DMRs shooting down at the Elites trying to make it inside the objective
Sacrificing accuracy for one feature (in this case, getting an advantage when crouching)? Doesn’t sound like a good trade.
But if I have to put up a suggestion, how about increasing the scoped-in time? Normally you get shot out immediately after you’re hit but what if when you crouched, it might take 1 more shot from the weapon to zoom you out? I don’t discuss mp very often so I realize it might not work but I’d rather not see the loss of something so valuable in the campaign (those Crawlers could be the next Buggers and I still have nightmares from dealing with focus rifle Skirmishers).
thought crouch shooting was cool addon and punished rushers/jetpackers… adds strategy, and it will be fun -Yoink!- off all these COD players when they take forever to figure out whats up
> make crouch shooting so much more accurate than running and gunning, and you have yourself a mp full of camping idiots.
I don’t see how since the only guns that have bloom is the AR, the Magnum, and the Storm Rifle(as far as at least I’ve seen). Even with that going for them, BRs and DMRs at a distance can still hurt those guns much faster.
Meh. I think it encourages hiding and camping. I would prefer it not to return, but it’s not a big deal if it does. I do want the crouch to be faster though.
It will only promote hiding and camping, and will slow the game down. AAs will already slow it down enough. We don’t need players crouching waiting because they get better accuracy.
It encourages more stationary gameplay. It works fine in games like Battlefield and Call of Duty, but those games have much faster killtimes than Halo.
Honestly? No. It didn’t make enough difference for anyone to use in Reach and if you have it make more difference in 4, then that means Bloom will need to return in it’s full terribleness. Just drop it. Besides, this is supposed to be a long time after Reach so the suits should already have long compensated at least somewhat for recoil.

If you played the TU version of Reach, you’ll know the Needle Rifle is a freaking beast when crouch-shooting.
> I don’t want it to return because I don’t want any form of bloom making its way into Halo 4.
Then you won’t like the AR, the Magnum, the Storm Rifle, and other weapons that haven’t been revealed and may have bloom.
Yes it honestly should give you better accurracy then standing still or shooting while on the move. That’s sort of the point besides making a smaller target of yourself.
Still don’t understand the hate on bloom just a visual representation of spread and honestly didn’t change up my gameplay much more then occasionally realizing that I ought to lay off the trigger a bit and line up my shots better. Heck if anything the visual reminder made me piss away less ammo futilly which is a good thing. But I guess it is horses for courses really. Many PC games give you the option of changing to simpler reticles and people make judgements on spread themselves if they don’t like the visual representation given to them with reticule bloom.
