I know it sounds like a small thing, but in my opinion, the crosshairs in Halo are a big part of what makes Halo unique. First of all, they should never have Bloom. No Halo game out of the series (CE, 2, 3, ODST) had blooming crosshairs, and there’s no denying that it’s a large part of the Halo feeling. Not only that, and this seems like even smaller of a detail, but I think the actual crosshair itself should be thicker. If you look at the Crosshairs in H3, they’re much thicker than the ones in Reach.
I think that the thicker crosshairs, the blue color, and the lack of bloom are really a MASSIVE part of the way Halo feels. Plus, I think a lot of people loved the way the BR worked with that style of crosshair in both Halo 3, and Halo 2.
Not the best shots, but here are shots of each games’ crosshairs for comparison.
Reach
This type of crosshair should be used in Halo 4, whether the BR comes back or not. I would like to hope everyone agrees, because it seems like such a simple thing, but it really seems to matter.
I also noticed that they tend to be pretty simple shapes, rather than what you see in Reach.

I agree with you on all of your points, although I dont think that the thickness of the reticle matters provided that the sky isnt the exact same color cough forge world cough

Yeah, is blue really the best color for contrast against a variety of backgrounds? What other colors might work?

I believe that we should be given the ability to change the color of our HUD on the RGB scale. That way we could make ourselves a HUD that best suits our needs and wants.
But we can’t rule out the importance of crosshair thickness and amount of transparency. Both have huge effects on how visible the cross hair actually is, no matter what’s the color.

I really like this idea. You could even have it adjustable from the in game menu, so you could change it depending on what level you were playing. That would be cool.

Except that shot WAS from CE, if you’ve ever played it, and CE most certainly did NOT have blooming crosshairs.
The color change thing would be a cool option, but the thickness of the crosshair definitely effects the feel of the game. Using a BR with a thinner crosshair would feel different than using the standard size one. You can’t deny that.

Well, the shot is from CE, and CE did have bloom, so…

Really? Because it didn’t. Someone please point out to me the blooming crosshairs in Halo 1. I understand that there is a “bloom” effect, but the crosshairs DO NOT BLOOM.

Why not just let the player choose what color their HUD is?

1.) his CE crosshair IS from CE (youre talking about the one that was linked, correct? lol)
2.) CE only had bloom on the pistol when you held down the trigger. no one who was actually past terrible at the game held down the trigger, thus making your #2 point irrelevant for 90% of the people who played the game.
not only that, bloom on the CE pistol actually did what it was intended to do, 100% of the time, unlike reach. lol.

THIS! omg i want this soooo bad. it shouldnt even be that hard to implement, either!

There are games where you can choose what the crosshair looks like (size, shape, color, etc.), and I don’t see why the bloom can’t be an option either for people who liked it in Reach (There are people that like it).

But if there is no true blooming effect, blooming crosshairs would be sort of… useless?

Useless, maybe, but people might like the feel of it anyway.
I actually like the way the reticle looks in Halo:Reach. I could take or leave bloom but just for looks and ease of use, I prefer the reticle better in Reach. I do hope they pick a different color though. The color used for Reach is too similar to the sky for my taste.

That is actually a pretty good idea. I would like being able to change your HUD in terms of colors. Not a needed feature, but really cool.
