Has anyone heard of any updates or know if there are any plans to include cross-play for campaign?
For Halo Infinite, I can’t recall if it’s been mentioned but I think that will be ok.
For Halo MCC - due to the way Bungie originally wrote the networking models for campaign, it would take 343 six to twelve months per game to rewrite the necessary code to support cross-play campaign. In addition, time would be required for flighting, feedback and bug fixing. It would take a long time and lot of resources to do it and I don’t see it happening any time soon, if at all.
Pretty much what above-mentioned ^

Thats a lot of work! Thank you for the explanation!
I do hope this is included in Infinite though. I have friends on both platforms and it would be cool to play with all 4 people on different hardware.
Thatd be cool i do have some friends on pc and thatd be fun to play campaign with em
No, i created a post about a idea i had where you can search for people for campaign mode. Having cross play and having some sort of match making campaign would be epic. Its hard to find people that hasn’t played the campaign yet or want to do it. May be in the new Halo 6 they may do it, I hope.
My brother and his son and I play games with multiplayer campaigns as they live a state away from me. When I saw cross play on Halo I got excited then saw its not for the campaign. Too bad. Guess its a pass for us.
Sadly, there is no online/system link co-op for campaign at launch, nor even split-screen co-op, so how would they manage to have cross play? Then there is also the fact that campaign cross play wouldn’t have any use without an actual means of playing co-op, which the game won’t have until at least three months after it launches. However, I have a feeling it may be more than that…
As others have said, once campaign co-op is released it should have full cross play support just like multiplayer. The only reason that MCC does not have cross play between PC and console for campaign is because of the outdated code that would require more work than is worth to fix. Since Infinite is being built from the start for PC and Xbox this shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Pretty sure both versions are running the same code, and if not, the code can be ported from one x86 Windows 10 machine to another x86 Windows machine quite easily.

If it could have been done easily it would have been done already. It took a good few months to get Reach and ODST Firefight rewritten. As I mentioned it’s the networking model that causes the issues here and it would take between 6 and 12 months per game to update. It’s not something you can just copy/paste
later we will have surely

I highly doubt the networking model is preventing my zen 2 pc and zen 2 xbox from interacting with eachother.

It’s a large part of the issue, yes. Multiplayer uses a different model which is why cross-platform multiplayer is fine between Xbox and PC. This is commentary (non-verbatim) from Farns (Farnication) the [title may have changed or be slightly different] Project Lead for MCC. For a more verbatim and recent quote:

That’s from the Halo Mods where it’s been talked about a few times, feel free to join and search back through the comments for further info.
Was this ever implemented? If not, is there a date for it to happen?
Let’s keep to this years threads
