I must say i wasnt really feeling the new maps before they came out, they were all huge, they looked nothing really unique ect.
Id like to just get on with talking about the maps in general not how microsoft messed up with the delivery ect earlyer today ect.
Right so after playing tonite on all maps and alot of differnt gametypes on those maps i must say im quite surprised, i enjoyed my time alot, and i herd quite afew people on mics saying how much they enjoyed that game ect.
Now im a big CTF fan always have been since h ce. I played some CTF games tonite on all 3 new maps and its the most fun i’ve had in halo since the begining of halo 3. Some really good games, maybe i was just lucky but i felt that the maps really become a thing of beauty with the right game type.
So just taking the maps for what they are, big team maps, lets face it you cant play 4v4 on these maps properly, sure they need smaller maps soon. Still for what thse maps are , i really enjoyed them and hope they will played alot in btb and ctf. Id love a CTF BTB with these maps included.
Id also like to point out, with ctf on these maps, having the instant respawn and no personal weapon drops included in the ctf gametype it really improved gameplay and made warthogs ect more worthwile, and just braught that feeling of halo back into halo.
So id give thse maps a 4/5. One customer plesently surprised. I hope others enjoyed these maps and can take them for what they are.
~heres hoping for some smaller size maps in the nxt dlc.
Here’s what i can see, from map packs, to the names, crimson castle and majestic. I think Crimson is more btb maps bc, if i remember right that’s more of crimson’s style, while castle and majestic might fit their spartan ops teams “style”
they’re fun and all but is anyone else sick of every new map that comes out being huge? big team is fun but i miss old style halo maps for 4v4. just a small simple map. guardian. the pit. midship. lockout. i would like to see smaller maps in the future.
I played one game of Slayer on Wreckage, and it was pretty fun. I also played three games of Extraction on Shatter, and it was great! The gametype is really fun, and Shatter is a perfect map for it. I haven’t gotten a chance to play Harvest yet, though.
Once you get the layout of the maps down they are actually quite good.
(Spending a few minutes wandering around them in Forge first is highly recommended.)
But let’s be clear, they are designed for BTB CTF and other BTB objective gametypes (but mainly CTF).
These maps are fine, if there is any negativity towards this map pack, I believe it is because this game is starving for more smaller maps. (ala Haven, Adrift)
Here’s hoping the next map pack supplies the smaller 4v4 maps alot people seem to crave. Me included.
On the bright side this map pack finally got me out of Infinity Slayer and attempting other game types.
Im glad others seem to enjoy the maps. CTF on wreckage is really fun chaos for sure. I think im shatterd, im surprised there are no warthogs, the matnis is funs ure but lets get some hugs going on there please, maybe even a wrath.
As for maps in general, yeh i enjoying these btb maps but we sure do need smaller scale maps next. Im kinda glad the btb maps are out the way, there is really no excuse now for the next dlc not to be all small or at the lesat 2 small and one medium size. I dont mind the btb maps but even i think id get abit anoyed if the next map pack are huge maps again.
Its nice to mix it up between btb and infinity slayer. So many people take infinity slayer seriusly that its nice just to jump into btb and splatter some people
ps. 343i please add forged maps from the forge maps into the playlist soon, boggels my mind why 3 maps in h4 so far havnt even been added into the playlist and i think one of them even has a defult forge map.
As for getting smaller DLC next time, this just simply won’t happen. There are too many playlists out there right now and they want to give ALL playlists a new addition. So…one new map has to be large, one medium and one small. This is to evenly distribute a new map to all kinds if likings.
If they released 3 new “small DLC” maps today, this would only leave us stuck with with a “large” or “medium DLC” next time.
I think it’s completely fair what they do/will continue to do, because in the end everyone wins; even if I agree halo is more of a 4v4 kind of game and should be played on maps rightfully so
Sure i understand that, but there no denying that this map pack is just prity much BTB maps all the way. These maps are kinda big like realy big for 4v4. When they say yeh you can play 4v4 on these maps, yeh sure you CAN, but it doesnt really play well.
So if they have already made a dlc with 3 large size maps, there is no reason why they cant release a dlc with 3 smaller scale maps. Also if lets say you are correct in the nxt 2 dlcs, one small, one med, one large. So after 3 dlc map packs we would have 5 large , 2 small, and 2 medium. Hmn thats not really spreading out the sizes.
Ummm, both Shatter and Harvest are completely symmetrical. They aren’t unbalanced, and neither caters to a specific team. Wreckage is COMPLETELY asymmetrical, and I’ve won and lost games on both red and blue team.
Anyways, I like the maps. I think Harvest is my favorite, with Wreckage coming in second and Shatter coming in third.
I love Extraction on Shatter, but hate Slayer with a passion. 6/10
I haven’t played extraction on Wreckage, but I love all the gametypes I have played on that map. 7/10

> The only maps in the game as a whole that I think are “Halo Classic” potential, are Exile and Haven.
I think Harvest might have “classic” potential. I’ve only played one game on it so it’s hard to tell, but I liked it. It’s big, symmetrical, with lots of cover scattered around. The exterior works well for vehicles. The ramps are textbook risk/reward. You’ve got a great vantage point on the map, but at the expense of any sort of cover. It reminds me of Rat Race a little bit actually.
