Hey folks, I know Majestic is out tomorrow and I know the Crimson playlists have been removed, but I have MSpoints burning a hole in my account.
Are the Crimson maps any good? Do they feature much in other playlists?
Or should I just grab Majestic tomorrow?
crimson arent that good but i dont really like any of the maps. I’d say go ahead and get both packs so you’ll have a bunch of achievements you can get and more map options.
Thanks for that. In all honesty I agree with you on the maps; I’ve seen better. But I bought all the dlc for previous games, so I guess it is just variety and choice I’m looking for.
Not much in the way of customs as I have no friends who play
I love 'em, great maps. Don’t let the angry kids who had their “free” maps taken away try to talk you out of the purchase. The maps are solid, cool environments, new achievements and decent gameplay. Obviously the second pack will be “better” but there’s nothing wrong with the Crimson maps at all.
If you want them all, just get the season pass and save yourself $5. It’s worth it, at least to me it is. If you’re a Halo fan and plan on buying them anyway why not?
I’m not a fan of the maps to be honest, they’re okay at best, I’m looking forward to majestic a lot more. I have the season pass from the LE before anyone decides to think I had the maps taken away from me.
I bought it and I’m not disappointed (much), but if you play split screen please mind that 1/3 of map pack is unplayable (Shatter has the worst frame rate issues I’ve ever seen on 360).
However without even without Crimson playlist avaible those maps are worth buying because they appears quite often on other playlists.

or maybe that’s exactly what they want you to think.
here’s what you have to do when creating new maps (and I’m probably forgetting stuff) :
designing it on paper/whiteboard.
create it ingame (includes : new textures, models for non-existing buildings, new skyboxes, ambient sounds, making a background for it).
testing it to see if the map plays well.
playtesting the hell out of it (to make sure there is no bugs like the fake ceiling on complex) which is probably what takes the most time.
all these steps X3.
they are also definitely working on another Halo game (they ARE looking for more staff to work on a new AAA project. don’t believe? look it up) and this takes the vast majority of the studio (new console = new architecture, hardware, new way of working, more resource needed, etc) WHILE ironing out more bugs and glitches.
and look at how fast they release maps.
looks fishy to me.

Crimson must have been cut from the final game, seeing as it is released a measly month after the game came out. Although it would explain the low quality of the maps if they indeed have been created after the game.
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Whilst Halo 4 multiplayer isn’t my favourite of the series, it’s still a steady alternative to other games (anyone else experienced issues on Reach lately?) and I don’t wanna give up on it.
I do play a lot of split-screen as well (a sofa is still my favourite kinda lobby) so thanks for that particular info.
Looks like I’ll add to those points on payday and get the Season Pass. In for a penny, in for a pound!
I got the LE with the map pack pass so I cannot complain about free maps at all. The crimson maps are alright though. Not the best but not too bad. I personally see them as a god send seeing as how Im sick of Ragnarok and exile all the time so playing Harvest or shatter once in a while brings a smile to my face.
If you are looking for BTB maps and a few extra achievements then get the Crimson DLC.

Honestly, I would say no to all map packs for now in general.
You won’t get to play them much, at least in current playlist settings.
I’ve only played on harvest 2 times and wreckage 1 time outside of crimson playlist…

I’m nearly certain that 343 doesn’t even make the maps, Certain Affinity does. They have a completely different team working specifically to make maps, so the whole “cut from the game” argument flies right out the window. The maps aren’t low quality at all, CE has been making Halo maps for years, they know what they’re doing.
Sure someone is going to say that the old Halo maps are better so CE must blow at doing their job but they don’t and they make maps for all sorts of games.
Long story short, Crimson maps were good, Majestic maps will be too.

CA has created most of the multiplayer and the entire Forge. Most of Halo 4 has been outsourced, so yeah the “cut from the game” argument still goes up.
People got bored with them to quick for a reason. And that reason wasn’t because they popped up too often. Outside the crimson and BTB playlist they rarely ever appeared. You may find them good but I can safely say the most people were disappointed with the Crimson maps.
Let’s hope that 343i/CA has learned from those mistakes and will proof that with the Majestic maps.
