I was playing Syndicate’s coop mode earlier and I thought about how its “clan” system could be integrated into Halo 5.
To put it briefly, in Syndicate players create their own in-game Syndicates which offer:
-Globally ranked scoring
-Tracked records within the clan (Who has the most kills, points and things of that nature)
-A full hierarchy for a player to progress through
-Challenges and competition within the clan itself
-Active roster
-Finally and most obviously, a customisable name and banner (emblem…) to fight under
What I thought was neat was how the system alerted you when your Syndicate fell or rose in global rank and while the game was alive, it instilled a greater sense of competition.
GTA Online and Max Payne 3’s crews are a comparable, which is probably something most of you are more familiar with.
Personally I think a clan integration like Syndicate’s would be a welcomed addition. For one, clans/teams/crews can be purely self contained within the game itself and managed in-game.
People won’t have to rely on 3rd party systems to recruit or find clans. From what I’ve seen, while being able to bundle up a group of players, it can be messy and disorganised. You know you are a part of a clan, but you don’t always know what you can do with them. Communication isn’t as fluid.
Advertising for your clan can be as simple as displaying a clan emblem (secondary to your personal one) and inviting someone to the clan can be as simple as a game invite. (That’s how it works in Syndicate)
Of course, competitive multiplayer can benefit from this . People are able to set up their official groups within the game and have it track stats like each team member’s K/D, W/L, TOD and medals. Halo 5 could make use of Syndicate’s global ranking, which alone would create a sense of competition and purpose within the clans.
Teams can see where they sit on the ladder and tournaments can be more accessible and easier to set up as everything is handled within the game.
**A full hierarchy or ranking system within the clan,**for some players, be a drive to contribute and be a part of something.
Though probably most importantly, people will be able to find and join communities that play Halo the way you do. An active roster within the “clan base” can allow players to immediately join in to whatever their clan is doing at any given time.
Is this something 343 should do?
On a side note, what would it be called in Halo 5? Personally I think “Fireteams” fit the bill.
