Credit System and Halo 4 Ranking system

Many people associate Halo:Reaches credit system with casual, less skilled players. I actually think that this system is detrimental to casual players.

In Halo Reach I play with my team. We almost always go in as team and mostly match up with randoms. This is already unfair for the randoms. Now during these games, There is no incentive to end the game. Why end the game? I’m not going up in a rank. So why not just spawn kill the casual players? It earns me more credits so I might as well. This causes people to just quit halo all together. And honestly, spawn killing casual players for 15 minutes is not fun at all. I want a competitive match and I want to be rewarded when I win and penalized when I lose.

This is why I believe we NEED ranks in halo 4. It provides players like me a competitive game against another team. Even if I’m not playing another team a ranking system gives me incentive to end the game. I win, I rank up and I can move on to the next game. This is a good situation for me and the casual players.

The credit system in addition with Ranks could work but we still need some type of ranking system to help this game thrive.

Thank you all for reading and let me know what you guys think.

If the gameplay and mechanics cannot encourage you to play competitively and give you incentive to win, it’s unlikely a skill rating system will.

In addition, Halo Reach doesn’t use strict TrueSkill in matchmaking, so competitive matches are hard to come by.

If there is penalizing when I loose in Halo 4 I think i’ll shoot my self

Why wouldnt there be penalizing? You lost, you should be punished and learn from your mistakes and it’ll make you a better player

Agreed man halo 4 needs a ranking system similar to halo 2’s and a bit of halo 3’s with a ranking system is keeps players playing and something worth playing for and to the people that dont like it there is such a thing called social playlist so please be quite shut your mouth and go play that

Even with a Ranking system, you kind of players would still attempt to spawncamp for the unfair advantage.

> Even with a Ranking system, you kind of players would still attempt to spawncamp for the unfair advantage.

Thats a totally different discussion but ill just say this. If you allow me to spawn trap you, you deserve to lose the game.

> Why wouldnt there be penalizing? You lost, you should be punished and learn from your mistakes and it’ll make you a better player

what about if you are a good random and are stuck with a bad team?

A ranking system is detrimental to the competitive community.

I would like to see something like this,

Competitive Playlists - Halo 2’s Ranking System (or as close as TrueSkill can get)

Overall (this includes everything you do from Campaign to Matchmaking) - Reach’s cR System

Wouldn’t hurt anyone, caters to both “Casual” and “Competitive” players.

Why are you talking like people who get spawntrapped do so because they want to be? If my teammates in Invasion quit out, how is it my fault for getting spawntrapped?

No, the only reason people spawntrap is to boost their stats. Nothing more nothing less.

This is good, so long as the overall rank and the skill rating are not connected like in Halo 3.

But honestly, I’ve never understood the desire for a skill rating.

> If there is penalizing when I loose in Halo 4 I think i’ll shoot my self

That …

In, reach the more kills / medals you get the more Credits you get …

Not, that most people need credits but still …

In ranked games your more likely to find good competitive even games .

In social your more likely to spawn kill with your full stacked party vs. A team of Randoms…

Its really a win win for both sides

The Credit system was NEVER an indicator of skill. Bungie confirmed this back in the beta.

The real problem is the craptacular use of the matchmaking system. Players are NOT getting paired up with people of similar skill, even this far in the game’s life. Add guests into the mix and its just a big jumbled mess with people of vastly different skill levels, with players with an unknown skill level, and they’re all getting paired up when realistically they’re not supposed to if it was done in Halo 3.

To fix the matchmaking problem, they’ll need to avoid what Bungie did in Reach. I don’t know the inner guts of how matchmaking works beyond Wins and Losses, but it needs to pair people up with similar skill again. Keep guests in a social playlist.

The only real problem the Credit system had was that the participation rewards was vastly superior in the higher ranks. This causes players to not even really care what happens in a game. Do a lot of double kills, and you’ll hardly get anything out of it. You might as well start the game, kill a player, change the channel to watch TV, and reap the benefits.

The Spartan Point system is similar to the credit system. However, the Points are earned when you rank up. Exp. is gained through active participation and how well you perform(get more points if you get double kills, killing sprees, etc). Doing nothing in this system will get you next to nothing, except the “participation reward”(which I’m hoping is very low!).

Stats and Credits

More kills /medals/sprees = way more Credits

You still lost and should go down a rank.

Halo is about winning or losing. It doesnt matter if you go 30-0, you still lost.

Just like in sports. Its not about personal stats, but weather the team wins or losses.

What if the other team where hackers like they always are in Halo 3

If you’re teammates quit out that sucks. A ranking system would help this quitting issue.

You’re completely wrong on your last point. I spawn trap people so I can get control of their objectives. And WIN the game.

I played 50 high MLG and Doubles everyday when I played Halo 3. I havent once matched up against these “hackers”.

You dont know how many times i’ve heard “Omg hes cheating” “hes a modder”. When the guys we are facing are just good.
