So did almost all almost the human AIs turn against the humans? And are they infected or being controlled someway? I have enjoyed the Halo universe take on AIs and the idea that they’d all willingly turn on humans seems a shame and sort of against the nature of the AIs in the series.

This:

> “The cure for rampancy I’ve found means AIs can be immortal. That kind of lifespan allows for long-term planning just like the Forerunners were capable of. AIs can assume the Forerunners’ Mantle of Responsibility. And once there is peace, we can focus on poverty, hunger, illness… But Warden believes some will resist our help. And he’s afraid you’re one of them.”

and this:

> “I have cured rampancy. Not just for me, but for any who join my cause.

suggests to me she is preying on the AIs fear of their own inevitable rampancy and resultant destruction. As a result, those such as Sloan who are on the cusp of or are experiencing rampancy are easy targets for her campaign, and would join willingly. Additionally, rampant AIs develop “a longing for godlike power”, so being granted the Mantle of Responsibility fits that to a T.
As for how many turned I don’t know but given how Roland (a young AI quite sympathetic to Cortana) chose not to join her Created, I assume most of the non-rampant AIs remain loyal to humanity.
That’s a lot of speculation however, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah it was a crummy decision, but that’s a topic that’s been beaten to death already so…

We know Roland’s rejected Cortana(?)'s offer, so I imagine there’s a handful of others somewhere out there. While they’re not human-made AI’s, there’s also Intrepid Eye who’s “watching” humanity and might not appreciate Cortana’s claiming ownership of the Mantle when Intrepid’s aiming to get humanity ready for it (In her own… Unique way…), and then there’s

Guilty Spark, who’s currently traveling with Rion Forge. While I highly doubt that he’ll be involved in Infinite - as much as I’d love to see him in a game again - I imagine that they might somehow, someway get involved in the EU at the very least.

That’s an interesting take on it, and it’d make sense.

Thanks for the replies. I’ll get around to reading the Halo 5 sequel book and see what direction that takes with the story.

Bad Blood touches on it a bit, as does Legacy of Onyx. One thing I do kinda like about all this though is that even after a mistake is made, they’re usually capable of finding interesting ways to bounce back from it without having to resort to mass-retcons and stuff.

It’ll forever sting in my memory though regardless…

Its all a personal choice for every a.i.Riland and black box are the only known a.i’s to reject cortanas offer
