I had this idea after watching some of the Forza paint videos. Why can’t we get some tools to create our own weapon skins you can use in any multiplayer game mode.
One thing I love about the Halo community is how creative they are even with the limited tools they have given us in the past. If 343 gives us something comparable to Forza Paint shop we could see some amazing content.
Click the link to see some photoshoped examples of what I am talking about. I hope you like them, and share them with those at 343 to at least get them to talk about adding this feature.
That’s some pretty badass concept art, let me say that.
However, I don’t know how it would be possible to implement a functional, yet useful, way of creating the skins in the game. I imagine that it’d be watered down to support the limitations of a console controller, and knowing Microsoft, an external PC editor would likely be exclusive to Windows 8 and/or only run functionally on .NET software.
What I’m seeing with an external PC editor is the same scenario as Skype. Owned by Microsoft, runs all all OS’s, but runs like -Yoink- on anything that’s not Windows.
Being a linux user, that’s something I don’t want.
> It will just incrase the network load, and I don’t want to pick up a DMR with a -Yoink!- in it…
A “report” button will go a long way, you know.
However, you’re completely correct in how it will increase the load against the servers. When one creates their own weapon skin, it saves it as a file, which will be larger or smaller than the regular weapon files according to how many changes are made, which will in turn increase the load on the servers when the skin files are loaded into the game.

Thanks for the comment. I honestly don’t know much about how it would effect the servers. I want the most ideal matchmaking that we can get, but if it can be done without to much of a problem it would be nice. I honestly would just love to know that 343 at least talked about it, but they don’t respond very often to forum post.
I can see it possible, the way Halo seems to be going with weapon skins, It kind of reminds me of counter strike. It is possible that Specific Community made skins can be accepted by 343 and turned into req skins. It would be a universal file, so servers wouldn’t have the load of individual custom files, and it would definitely increase the the req system as a whole. The way req packs seem to work, with the chance of rare armor/ weapon skin drops already, it pretty much seems like 343’s take on cs go weapon cases.
A really cool idea but it probably won’t happen due to server load and as said before there would probably be someone who would put a u know what on their gun
Well if you look at black ops 3, you could see they have a cool gun customization, though very VERY watered down, and im sure people would go on about how “halo 5 copied cod”. But theres an example.
