Create a monitor and name it.

This may be a little tough for those that don’t feel like taking a little time for this.
What I mean by this discussion is to come up with a name for a monitor that at least attempts to follow the naming method Bungie used.

My monitor is 117649 (11-76-49) Narcissistic Divination
This took me 3 hours to come up with. :stuck_out_tongue: Just do your best to create an interesting name and you don’t have to follow the rules exactly. I chose my monitor’s name by using the negative emotion + technical term and then I chose the tech term after looking through words that have 4 syllables. (This doesn’t follow any rule really) I got the 4 syllables from Spark being 1, Tangent being 2, and assuming the next one would be 3, I was looking for something with 4 syllables. I know that rule doesn’t make sense but I chose it as something to be a restriction for the naming process.

Use this when you finally decide your monitor’s name.
“Greetings. I am [Number] [Name]. I am the monitor of Installation [Number].”

You do NOT have to follow the rules I used exactly or at all, just try to make create a name interesting that would make sense in some way.

The monitor does not have to be from one of the Halo Installations.
Ex. 686 Ebullient Prism - Halo Blood Line

Example:
“Greetings. I am 117649 (11-76-49) Narcissistic Divination. I am the monitor of Installation 07.”

Unique Attribute - The light in the eye is dead and thus unable to identify the flood outbreak around it.

Back story - This monitor was still freshly built when the facility was attacked by the flood. While unaware of the outbreak, a Forerunner warrior accidentally damaged it’s eye while escaping from a battle. Since then, 117649 couldn’t see anything and wanders Installation 07 unaware of any outbreak.

This took me about 3.5 hours to create.

Unique trait: can only fly backwards and/or sideways in any combination with up and down, but not forwards.

Cynical Ember.

There was once an explanation for monitors’ names on Halopedia or HaloFanon that matched numbers 0-9, with the alphabet. Then an equation was made out of the monitor’s name. I’d link this key. But it’s been so long I can’t remember where to find it, or if it still exists anyway.

Guilty Spark obeyed this equation though, that ended in, you guessed it, another seven reference. I think Penitent Tangent may have obeyed the rule as well. Cynical Ember was my attempt at coming up with a name that obeyed the key. I think it’s a seven reference one way or another.

I gather most monitor names to be comprised of words that include a word that defines both a feature of light and a feature of mathematics combined with a feeling of emotion or mental direction, all combined into one to create an overall description of said monitor.
A spark not only emits light, think of “spark of imagination” and also the begging of a linear matrix, the smallest value of n is the spark.
A Tangent not only is a mathematical point of direct perpendicular-ness to a curve, but when light passes an object at tangents, it is bent. Get it, bent, crazy… ?
A prism is both a geometric shape and a method of splitting light.

And that’s just the illuminating part.

“It is my pleasure to endeavor for your cause. I have guarded this ring for eons. And I will guard it to the ages. But I am willing Reclaimer, to facilitate what is undoubtedly inevitable. These Sentinels will cooperate…”

Meaning of first name: Basically, opportune speed. Can also mean Godspeed or that he’s unusually fast.
First names I considered: Exuberant, jubilant
107 is a play on 1 of 7 and also the last three digits of the service tag assigned to me in the Halo: Reach demo.

Unique Attributes -

-White colored eye glow

-different look from other Monitors. Looks more mechanical

-very fast movement speed

-Generates a green colored force field that heals machines and pushes enemies back

-Has five lasers at his disposal. White, black, purple, red, and blue.
Blue works like Guilty Spark’s blue laser.
Red works like Guilty Spark’s red laser.
Purple is an adhesive substance (works like the Scarab’s main gun). Meant for Carrier Forms.
Black is explosive. Meant for Pure Forms.
White can penetrate shields without damaging them. Very powerful.

Back story -

Providential Velocity once operated as a sentry for a Forerunner prison facility.

“Greetings Reclaimer. I am one-two-four abandoned glimmer of instillation 06.”

Back story- With being one of the first monitors created, it was far from perfect. While it served as the primary monitor of instillation 06 for a short time, it was soon replaced. It now serves as a secondary monitoring system for the ring.

Special attribute- Being an early monitor, it was bigger than most. Its slower than many of the newer ones, but is much more durable.

Greeting, My name is 952 Donnish Ploratus. I am the monitor of Instillation 00’s Library.

Unique Ability: A bright blue liquid drips of Donnish’s eye to keep its processing and memory cores active and in perfect state.

Backstory: 952’s entire life has been for the soul purpose is to record and watch the Arc’s massive library and its samples of alien DNA and other things deemed to important to be lose by the firing of the Halo rings. After thousands and thousands of years, Donnish Ploratus continues to overlook the massive library and all its secrets, still fresh minded and rampant-free due to his systems old but successful drip of coolant from its eye that keeps its mind and thoughts clean.

1331 Furious Asymptote
"I have guarded these archives for 100,000 years. I have completed all minutely duties efficiently, so I have had to… occupy myself. For one. Hundred. Thousand. Years."

Furious Asymptote is an A.I. created for a greater purpose and assigned an unimportant position… or at least, that is what he’d tell you. His vibrant red eye glows with vibrant intelligence, but within his crimson casing lies an undisciplined mind that has always seeked but never succeeded in escape. He exudes irritation, his dutiful conversations bitter, sarcastic and blunt. If he is not attempting to rewrite the code that commands him to stay at his post, he is entertaining himself by experimenting with his environment within prodedural parameters. Even with the liberties he has within his archive, he bares an intense hatred towards his creators that has not dulled in his years of solitude. Though he has limited knowledge of them, he assumes the Reclaimers are likeminded with the Forerunners and anticipates exacting revenge.

Unique Ability: Due to the unusually lax parameters of his position, Furious Asymptote is capable of a great deal of violence and control within his facility. Such control includes manipulating surfaces, identifying hostile creatures for the sentinels with little to no supporting evidence, and moving small sections of the facility. Outside of his facility, Furious Asymptote has no unique abilities.

“Greetings. I am 007 Cryptic Sentry, Monitor of Installation 00.”

Traits: Because it was the first Monitor made, emotions were not made a part of 007’s programming/protocols. No light is emitted from the ‘eye’; is not visible to the Flood. Or humans, either . . .

“Greetings. I am 25243 Vindictive Ampere. I am the Monitor of Installation 03”

Attribute- Can manipulate current flow to failed electrical parts. An operation which is distinguished by his light turning from green to blue.

Back Story - When created an internal malfunction resulted in an shutndown of his installation. Left alone by the forerunners Vindictive Ampere wanders the various areas of Installation 03 using his attribute to reboot the once vibrant ring world.
Having never met any form of carbon based life form it is unkown exactly how Vindictive Ampere would react on first contact.

“Greeting, My name is 375 Forced Parity. I am the monitor of Line Instillation 1-9.”

Unique Ability: 375 is capeable of modifying any technology above standard limits at the cost of using a large amount of energy as trade-off. 375 is also modified with it’s own enhancments to take out almost any kind of flood form imaginable.

Backstory: Monitor 375’s goal was to obtain new defensive methods against the Flood in a controlled enviroment. Line Instillation 1-9 houses countless samples of exotic creatures and DNA samples of races long lost to the universe. Allowing the Flood to infect each creature and then study how they behave in theier new form they are then terminated when the subject is deemed too powerful or on the verge of becoming a hivemind. Strict protocoles were issued to 375 to prevent any and all outbreaks, giving it free reign to destory anything that might be detrimentale to his primary functions. Instilation 1-9 is infact a sheild world, granting it the perfect archives or Flood research still fresh from the first Halo firing array. Unfortunatley, time has taken a tole on the monitor and bits or rampancy have begun to sink in. Any and all unknown factors that are in range of the planet are usually destoryed and later scavanged and archived. If there are any surivors they are taken to the lab where their DNA is extracted then performed on in a Flood control unit. Most of the research here is not been in vain and some very unusual and unique methods have been discovered that allow creatures to exterminate the flood.

It doesn’t follow any pattern, but I’ve always thought this name had a very good ring to it.

“Greetings, I am 611 (Six-One-One) Anomalous Intent. I am the monitor of Installation 2-0.”

My function is to provide a self-sustaining environment, should all my creator’s previous measures fail to protect the galaxy from the Flood infestation. It is an environment that houses the seeds for natural evolution, without the intervention of myself, or of any of my makers. It is simply a blank slate…Ready to be activated should the worst come to pass.

Installation 2-0 will be activated if all contact is lost with Installation 00, and Installations 01-07 are confirmed offline or under Flood control.

Unlike many of my brothers, my function is not pre-determined. I follow no protocol. I may do whatever is necessary to ensure that there will always be another species in the galaxy besides The Flood. My purpose is my own, as my makers were wise to keep my purpose a secret…Even to themselves. They went so far as to erase the memory of this installation (and me) from their memories, should they ever be infected by Flood.

And so I wait for all things to end…So my work can begin."

611 is a reference to the Bible, Genesis 6-11, which is the beginning of the part of Noah’s story where God tells him that a great Flood is coming to destroy all flesh. This is obviously appropriate, considering Anomalous Intent’s purpose is to essentially create life once the Flood has consumed all.

The words “Anomylous Intent” can be intepreted as “Deviating from what is designed or intended”. Anomalous is defined as being “Inconsistent with or Deviating from norms”, and “Intent” is a purpose or directive.

Anomalous Intent’s function is to try a different solution from the Forerunner’s “Halo” plan. Had the Flood ever populated the galaxy completely, or the re-population of the various worlds never happened, then Anomalous would have begun his work for providing natural evolution to the galaxy once more.

I then stopped all purging efforts as there was no point in continuing to fight for a dead civilisation

Backstory : I was almost announced destroyed because my lightning/voltage made a spartan’s shield shock himself :frowning:
I wasn’t destroyed because I could be helpful when it came to being behind enemy lines and taking out shield :smiley: also good at spy/recon missions

Status : KIA

GREETINGS RECLAIMER. I AM 000 SENTIMENTAL COSINE, MONITOR OF INSTILATION 01.

Appearance: silvery-white eye piece, black in colour, this Monitor has one of the greatest responsibilites to the Halo Isntillation it is assigned to- to make sure that it is in fully opperational condition at any given moment should the Reclaimers or Forerunners return.
