I think the problem is 343 and MS way they are contracting devs and not having real gaming developers who loves the franchise.
The fact that Andrew Witts quit says a lot and I think that lead to a whole bunch of problems for 343, hence the delay of Season 2 and 3.
Simply no
Not when a product is below legacy standards
When it comes to 343 Industries, I set my bar so low that it is a tripping hazard in the Ninth Circle of Hell, and yet somehow they managed to take that as a challenge and limbo dance with the devil.
Oh my goodness!
We want an actual game at launch, not a beta!
Wow, our expectations are WAY too high!
I don’t disagree with that point; but I don’t expect it to be perfect. I expect what was promised with a AAA title with Microsoft resources. This isn’t it.
This is another title that has been fumbled by 343i.
You’d be dead wrong, lmao. Halo was virtually the only arena shooter on the market that people played and, unsurprisingly, people stopped playing Halo right when Halo 4 released. And it never built back up. IDK where you’re getting the “streaming services grew in popularity along with battle royale, cross play and free to play games” idea from.
Firstly, streaming services were very well implemented by the time Halo Reach released. I can’t even fathom how that would contribute to the downfall of Halo/Arena shooters.
Secondly, Battle Royals didn’t exist until years after the release of Halo 5 of which the genre was already dead in a ditch. Again, that makes no sense.
Thirdly, cross-play has no impact on the popularity of a game, period. Why did you bring that up?
Lastly, free-to-play games have existed before the decrease in popularity of Halo/Arena shooters, so once again, why bring that up? Some of the best regarded and best-selling games aren’t free. It’s a fallacy to assume they had any impact arena shooter popularity.
Lol its the only halo with 1 ranked playlist… its normal to have expectations to have the same number as other halo
I don’t think expectations are too high. In fact, I think they are the opposite. No one is really expecting anything at this point. The bar is set really low now. I mean, it’s like 343 or whoever was after that Fortnite Apex Legends money - but didn’t know how they were going to do it. As a result we have a game made for really no one. It’s just in limbo. If I didn’t know any better my guess would be managerial problems.
It’s at least higher than the amount of ranked playlists featured in Halo: Combat Evolved. However, this is obvious due to the fact that Halo: Combat Evolved didn’t feature matchmaking in any form.
Right, I wouldn’t have mind waiting another year for it’s release. I glad they have the content they have but, so many things that gave Halo is greatness is missing, modes for one thing. I am just glad they have admitted that even they aren’t happy.
I understa d where your coming from with this perspective, and with some of the requests I have seen I get what your saying.
I do fear however you have heard from some of the more vocal members asking for significantly more then what was given.
I personally can live without playable elites and brutes, have accepted the reduction in the weapon and vehicle sandbox.
But what I did expect from a halo title, any halo title on launch is its most important aspects, All the playlists that were kept from us including the un-anounced infection. Forge would have solved the smallest map roster we have to date, as well as the lack of playlists. The significantly reduced customisation is made worse by a terribly designed battle pass and shop.
I like Halo Infinite, I paid full price for the game and then it was announced they would be launching as a live service game, People then expected them to behave like a live service game with regular content, myself included, but its not what we got.
Most of what they promised is missing or delayed still, and what we did get is badly put together, its a shame.
I think cross generations was a misstake, it takes so much longer to test and develope for multiple platforms. If they only made Halo I for Series S/X and PC would be enough and probably have higher quality and less desync. The difference in hardware is why the game runs so bad in online.
Halo Infinite is a live service without the live service. We already made huge sacrifices in game design that unanimously traded down. The game shouldn’t have shipped in such a bare bones state, nor should they have lied about certain design choices; remember no FOMO?
Making a ton of money is no longer enough and now they want to gouge further by going “Free to Play”. Pay full price for only campaign and they get to milk multiplayer with microtransactions? Brilliant scheme. They get their full price box sale and you get gouged indefinitely.
It’s not the dev’s fault either. No one wants to make a bad game, but when the corporate overlords demand they jump they must jump.
Everyone, even the creative head, seems to be under the impression that ‘more more more’, ‘faster faster faster’, is what the game needs – and then they apologize when the devs are burnt out. What we really need is ‘better’, even if new content is released slower. I’d much rather have a stable experience on a few fun maps, than an unstable experience on a boat load of unfun maps. Cf. Halo2, Halo3.
If you can’t handle the fire then get out of the kitchen. I for one am tired of excuses for not meeting deadlines and underperformance. In my opinion accountability does not make someone irrational. Most of the people in the world wouldn’t have jobs if they performed as poorly as half the people that worked on this game
One thing I’ve been trying to remember was how fast Bungie/343 were able to spit out maps in Halo 2, 3, reach, and so forth was. People seem pretty mad that only two new maps are included. But honestly, I don’t remember the other games getting new maps any faster in the older games. But bare in mind we are talking about 5-20 years ago so my memory might be slipping.
Content is still fairly slow regardless. We’re still trying to catch up with what an initial release would normally have in other aspects.
Please explain to me how you would rationally spend 6 years and 500m
