let me start off by saying this.
I liked Reach. I thought it was a good game. that being said, it wasn’t a very good HALO game. It brought some fun things to the traditional multiplayer offering that were actually good ideas. Assassinations, jetpacks, etc. Now wait just a second before you flame because i am not done.
Where bungie went wrong, is that they changed too much. They tampered with the sacred formula. While jetpacks are fun, the concept of loadouts and spawning with them messed up the formula. Then throw on things like armor lock, and bloom and slowly Halo became something different.
Halo 4 should not be like this. Halo 4 should return to its roots. everyone is equal and your shots go where you aim, not within a random expanding radius.
so i just want you guys to know i am all for returning halo to its former glory. To me, halo will always be 4v4 with a group of buddies outplaying the other team with skill.
However, I am not actually here to talk about what the core matchmaking of halo 4 will offer. That is a whole other topic in it of itself.
No this is about something completely new. it neither falls in to firefight, nor traditional multiplayer.
My idea, because I have yet to think of a better name, is called The War.
It is a completely seperate component of halo 4. I realize that the enemy as of now is still unknown, so I am just going to use the covenant as an example.
The gamemode is essentially large scale battles between the UNSC and Covenant. Yes, Invasion was in reach, but this is something completely different.
invasion was essentially a big team battle with multiple objectives. It can still be in the game because this idea is different.
( Please remember this idea is not in traditional matchmaking, nor does it take the place of traditional matchmaking)
The War is a class based gamemode in which the UNSC and the Covenant fight over vast landscapes, far bigger than anything found in traditional Halo maps. The maps found in this gamemode are unique to the war. Just as firefight maps are unique to firefight.
It will feature vehicle combat on an unparalleled, and offer new gameplay options.
Whats the set up? I like to think of it as a mix between SW:Battlefront and Battlefield.
Each side has its set of own unique classes.
UNSC
ODST
Spartan
Elite
Marine
Covenant
Jackal
Brute
Siren (A new covie that joined after H3. Equivelant to Elite but new. Work on description later)
Drone ( better than grunt I guess lol)
At the start you pick one of the 4 classes. Each have their stengths and weaknesses. Obviously a Spartan is going to be a lot more effective than a Marine, but getting kills with a marine will grant you more points than with a Spartan. ( more on points in a bit)
As you play and kill and accomplish tasks you are awarded points. These points have nothing to do with winning the game, they are used to purchase upgrades in game. For example, You kill 4 people, that earns you 400 points. You can then use those points to unlock things such as new classes, in game vehicles, and equipment drops.
Unlocking Classes: At the start there are 4 classes to choose from. However, as you earn points you can unlock sub classes. For example, the starting Spartan Class is= Assault Rifle, Magnum, 2 frags, Dualwielding. You can then use points to unlock subclasses like Scout= BR, Automag, 1 frag, Enhanced Agility( Halo 4’s version of sprint) Each class has individual subclasses. The Elites may have a stealth sub class or the ODST’s may have a Sniper class.
In game vehicles: At your home base there are vehicle depots that you can use to spawn vehicles instantly for you and your team. Better vehicles will cost more points obviously.
Equipment drops: You purchase equipment drops in the class select phase. They are undiscriminating abilities that can be used with every class. You take your equipment drop on to the battlefield with you. These include weapon drops, Vehicle drops, reinforcment drops. With weapon drops canisters fly in from the sky and land where you designate containing ordonance. With vehicle drops you can call in vehicle placements and a pelican will drop it off wherever you are. With reinforcment drops, a pelican comes in and flies very low wherever you call it in. This then acts as another spawn point for fallen players and is a good way to get them back in the battle.
One final thing you can buy with points is ordinance. Use your points to call in Longsword runs, Mac Blasts, and mortar strikes. Will cost a lot of points.
Another component is killstreaks. What? Get your call of duty out of my Halo. No no no, its not like that. In this gamemode you can unlock hero classes by earning killing sprees. Every time you get a killing spree you are awarded with a hero point ( or something). There are 3 heroes per side
UNSC:
1 point: Honor Gaurd Elite ( Sword, very fast, and strong)
2 :Heavy Spartan ( overshields, slow, with chaingun, essentially jorge)
3: The Arbiter ( A complete -Yoink!-)
Covenant:
1: Siren Commander ( A complete -Yoink!- as well, very fast)
2: Brute Chieftan
3: Hunter
Remember these are unlocked by getting killing sprees. They are stackable, so if you get 3 seperate killing sprees you can purchase the arbiter or hunter. A killing frenzy awards 2 points, running riot 3 and so on.
Once you die as a hero class they can not be used again unless you aquire more hero points.
Thats basically the class system. Now lets talk about the maps and gamemodes. The maps are gamemodes in it of themselves. Each map has a unique objective and goal. The War mixes big team multiplayer with a campaign like feeling. On one map you may be tasked with destroying the core of a covenant cruiser. Your first task will be to destroy outer defense systems, once that is done you will have to enter the control room so you can unlock the main door. Then once inside you have to destroy it. It is set up like invasion with multiple tiers, however you will not be doing the same thing on every map. Some examples include:
Destroying a UNSC vehicle depot.
Capturing covenant intelligence
Fight over a Forerunner structure, where one team must hold it off long enough to secure it.
etc.
Each map features a unique gamemode with different objectives. Remember, these maps are huge.
Also, there will be a gamemode that works on all of the maps. I have no clue how many there will be, but it works like this.
Each side is tasked with eliminating the other side like a deathmatch only bigger. They are given a reinforcment count of 200. Once you run out of reinforcments you lose and the other team wins. The catch is you can earn more reinforcments by completing random objectives on the battlefield. like securing a landing zone or destroying enemy instillations. it is essentially super BTB with a fun twist.
well I’m done. TL;DR= I dont have one.
I don’t know how well I explained it but that is the gist. A completely seperate gamemode that is class based. GO.
