Crawler Snipers and Knight Commanders

Anyone have any advice for taking these bad guys down? Not in a literal sense, I’m perfectly capable of killing them, but it just seems as if it’s going to take forever.

900 Sniper kills for Mastery when there’s only a max of 16 on a level. Whaaaaaat?

This is how I got those last 2 commendations from using the hits & tips in that Forum thread.

I got a 60 minute quit ban, and tried the switchback guide for snipers and commanders, im on 3/6 with Snipers, and its asking me for 300 kills, i just died inside knowing how many times i would have to do this in the future

It is very disheartening for those damn crawler snipers seeing as they so rare!
In the end once I had the commanders done I went back to Chapter 1 Episode 3 for the snipers. Put it on mute so i didnt have to listen to the intro & just wasted countless hours of my life restarting it.
Mix it up with Chapter 5 Episode 1, I didnt notice a difference between easy & legendary settings btw

i shall try that, long way on commanders aswell however, im on like, 6/90 i think

Spartan Millar and Nothing can go Wrong are the best places to get Knight Comm and Crawler Snipe. However, you may have to play on Legendary so they can appear. A little warning, though…be prepared to get a lot of deaths. They are tough ones to get. I recommend using the BR and a Scattershot.

Yea just solo Spartan Miller on legendary I think is the best way.

Use a hologram as a decoy or use active camo to get the drop on either.

For Crawlers snipes, a single headshot should do. Be wary of a small ring or halo around their face, it means there going to fire.

For Knight Commanders or any other Promethean Knight, use a BR or unscoped light rifle, or an Automatic weapon up close, assasinate it, or just keep shooting it with any gun with - keeping up the pressure.

  • Your main concern with Commanders is the Incineration cannon and its blast radius. Always be cautious.

Overall, with either promethean enemies you shouldn’t have much of a problem, prioritize enemies like taking out crawlers, watchers then knights. After taking out crawlers and watchers, you can at you leasure take out knights whichever way you see fit.

I have a loadout specifically designed for Legendary. I just use a BR and Plasma Pistol.

One pop to the head for Crawlers, a Plasma shot and 2-3 bursts to the head for a Knight.

Hi Folks;

I finally completed the Enemies commendation by reaching Master level for both Knight Commanders and Crawler Snipers. You have to kill 900 Crawler Snipers to complete Masters level, and 600 Crawler Snipers for the level before that - that’s an absolutely ridiculous amount - but still not as bad as the Vehicles Master Level for killing Mongooses.

It took about 20+ hours of playing the first ~ 1.65 minutes of Spartan Ops Episode 6, Chapter 5 “Switchback” over and over and over - a serious grind. That Chapter has the best Crawler Sniper and Knight Commander kills for time played ratio that I have found at 1.85 Crawlers Snipers per minute played.

Here are the average enemy kill statistics for Crawler Sniper runs I worked out for playing the first 1.65 minutes of that episode. The number on the right is how many of those ForeRunner enemies I killed for each minute of game play - over the long (45+ minutes per session) haul.

Alpha Crawlers 4.78
Crawlers 3.23
Crawler Snipers 1.85
Watchers 1.23
Knight BattleWagons & Lancers 0.62
Knights 0.62

Each 1.65 minute iteration (start Chapter, play up until after you kill the third group of Crawlers, then restart Chapter) I would kill 3 Crawler Snipers. If the cut scene at the start of the chapter wasn’t there, that would push the ratio to over 2 crawler snipers per minute of game play and shaved 20 seconds off each iteration.

The main trick to speeding this up is to by pass the first two “IFF” tags completely so you do not have to kill the 3 Knights guarding them, which adds 30 to 45 seconds to each run. I also played it on Easy, used an Auto Turret and the Fast reload perk too.

If you play for an extra ~ 1 to 2 minutes after the 3rd group of Crawlers are done, you can also kill 2 Knight Commanders, 3 more Knights and 4 more Crawlers for each iteration, which is how I go the Knight Commander Master achievement too. Once I had that Knight Commander Master achievement, I shortened it up and focussed only on the Crawler Snipers.

I also do not recommend waiting for the Knight(s) to spawn a Watcher, then killing the knight and letting the Watcher resurrect the Knight - which some people have suggested you do. It eats up time per iteration and generally I found maybe one in 4 times the Knight Commander will be resurrected. It isn’t worth the delay that it adds and actually drops your kills per minute of game play much lower than without it.

I recorded a few of my runs and might put together a guide for this on UTube - if people are interested.

HTH…

Nice work Spartan!

I have a YouTube clip describing something similar to this tactic I think:

Halo 4 Crawler Sniper & Knight Commander Enemies

I’d read about it on this very forum so thought I’d capture a clip to help demonstrate what to do.

I just do a few cycles of Spartan Miller as a warm-up. I did notwant to spend al of the endless hours all at once.

The challenges to credits ratio is awful, just like Reach was, for the most part. I enjoy the campaign with skulls challenge. This weeks should be higher however, seeing as how it’s infinity.
