I currently run the Steam version, but I used Xbox app prior and tried what you have suggested to no avail. It’s in the developer’s hands.
Steam version is still playable for me but the gamepass version, pre and post crash “fix” patch still crashes.
Tried to play the campaign since launch. Still the one and only game which crashes after a few minutes after the first cutscene. This must be a mess.
Windows Store Version
Windows 11 latest updates
Nvidia 3090 latest driver
Everything else updated
Clean system
“Unknown software failure” then 0x… address.
Since launch last year. Why Why Why.
It’s not even patching the game - some of it is they’re making several rookie mistakes. At one point my event logs where telling me RADAR_PRE_LEAKx64 - this is Microsoft’s message associated with its memory leak detector. Memory leaks to the computer are similar to checking out a book from the library and never returning it - like a bookless library the operating system would shutdown (crash) because it doesn’t have anymore free memory. When the operating system detects a program is mishandling memory it kills it and reclaims the memory its loaned to the program. Memory leaks aren’t good but they happen… Generally not as often as Infinite where at one point I was at basically a crash a day.
What I’m saying is 343s programmers have/had lot of room for growth in a fundamental areas of C\C++ and I’m glad to see they’ve siezed the opportunity to better themselves as programmers… Now if only they could fix desync…
I personally think they lack the skill/competence necessary to better optimise Halo: Infinite on the PC platform. They can’t even implement current gen features such as FSR, DLSS or ray tracing. Let alone trying to fix core performance.
All their talent appears to have fled the sinking ship.
Sad considering how much they hyped this game as being next gen and not being held back by last gen consoles.
Now we know the game was held back for being cross gen. And it plays worse for it.
Actually you can. I’ll update this post later (if I remember) with instructions how. Currently at work.
To your topic though, I have a friend who’s a graphic engineer at 343. He has told me that a bug causing crashing (which is affecting only 15%) was identified over a month ago. The issue is with the NVIDIA driver. 343 reached out to NVIDIA which responded that they believe they have a fix. However after a month 343 has not heard nor received any new info from NVIDIA. They are currently waiting to receive this fix so they can verify and release.
Note this conversation took place two weeks ago. Not sure if the status has changed or not.
Edit: To verify files on Xbox App got to Infinite - Click on the three dots - manage - files - verify and repair should be at the bottom.
