Crash when starting Multiplayer of any sort

Hello all,

I posted yesterday that my game was crashing when trying to edit the settings and controls. After spending the entire day attempting to play, I’ve discovered Halo Wars to be much more unplayable than I thought it to be, so I’ve decided to create another post, with my specific issues, platform type, gamertag, and region, just as “ske7ch” has asked us to do in the “please read before posting” post.

  1. Issue:
    A. Multiplayer: The game crashes at the start of a multiplayer game. It generally does not matter which game type is started, but if its under the “Find Match” in the multiplayer section, it will crash. This happens to either me or my brother, both of which are in a squad when attempting to start a game. There have been a couple of attempts where both of us would have the games crash at the same time. The crash happens exactly when the game is supposed to start. So everyone in a game just sees a player disconnecting, when in reality its actually someones game crashing. When the crash happens there are no error messages or anything of the sort. The window does the minimize animation and then just seems to x out on its own.
    B. Settings: Every time I have attempted to change or view the controls under settings, the game will crash. The crash specifically happens exactly when I press a key to assign. (For example if I want to change the cycle base from “z” to one of my mouse buttons, the game crashes.) It also randomly crashes as i scroll through the controls.
    C. Fullscreen Crash: The game also crashes when my video settings are set to full screen, but when the game is started it stays windowed. For whatever reasons if I continue to attempt to play the game while its in a window, it just crashes.

  2. Platform:
    PC; Specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; Intel Core i7 4720HQ; RAM: 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3; 2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M; Direct X 12.

  3. Gamertag:
    Loose Spade

  4. Region:
    U.S.

Hopefully with all those details, someone gets something out of it and creates a solution, but this is pretty annoying. It is a little upsetting that I, and I’m sure some other people did as well, paid $80 just to get the early release, and it seems to be unplayable. Lets hope this gets fixed soon.

Meanwhile however, anyone have solutions to these issues? Someone recommended I roll back my driver but NVIDIA just released an update specifically for Halo Wars 2.

Anyone see a dev response to these issues? Scrolling through the forum, haven’t seen a thing besides complaints very similar to mine.

I have this same issue, any changes in the options menu causes game to first stutter then freeze then black screen and crash with no error message however it hasn’t crashed in game. The fact that the game seems to draw to 7000MB of memory RAM in just then menu’s makes me think that it might be something like a memory leak making it happen.

I’m glad I found this! I’ve been having the exact same thing happen exactly the way you put it. Also, haven’t seen any dev’s active on these forums…
