The UNSC weapons seem to look pretty great, with lots of little details and high quality textures.
The covenant/plasma weapons on the other hand look…WIP.
I’m not sure why, but the models for the weapons are extremely low quality, low poly, and low res. Particularly the pulse carbine: https://i.imgur.com/uyfW8IL.png
Beyond that, there’s something very off about the plasma effects themselves. While all the previous Halo games have given plasma effects a very gaseous look, with sparks and pretty impressive particles: https://i.imgur.com/NJMQlvL.png …
Halo Infinite plasma effects look weirdly opaque, almost like splashes of paint: https://i.imgur.com/qvTgGLk.png https://i.imgur.com/66A27zN.png
Plasma burns on surfaces in previous halo games look great, while in Infinite they just look like white splotches of good or paint. I know Infinite is trying to bring back art elements from earlier games, but it really does just look very out of place.
I’m hoping that there is a considerable quality pass done to all the weapons and effects in the game, especially the covenant weapons.
Yeah, they look very cartoonish to me, hopefully that gets fixed.

NGL, I like these effects (at least in these still images). More than the Halo 5’s.
If you want realistic plasma, it does not quite look like electricity. It is its own thing. That being said, the effects do not need to be realistic and I personally do not care too much about the realism of the plasma effects, but rather how they look, and I like the way these look. I think it is just a matter of subjective taste.
As for the weapon models, I agree they need some touch up. Hopefully they will be done by launch.
Also, since I provided those two links, I might as well provide the rest.

It’s actually not the first time that more painty splotchy effect has been used, halo 2a multiplayer had something similar. I think I prefer the look in halo infinite over H2a mp, but I think halo plasma peaked in halo reach. Sometimes i go into halo reach’s theatre mode just to admire the shining, crackling plasma. Infinite plasma looks a little weird but I don’t mind.
I thought the same thing, though I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I noticed it especially in the plasma grenades, the texture and consistency seem more like a bright liquid than fire/gas. Just didn’t quite look right.

Exactly this…it made me feel like I was watching into the spider verse.
Definitely. I’ve been saying this since the campaign demo in 2020. The plasma particle effects look wrong. Like wispy, very cartoonish magic spells, and paint splashes. To be more constructive, I’ll take this image https://i.imgur.com/66A27zN.png as a base, because I think it look the worst. It’s too opaque throughout the entire effect, instead of being dimmer and more transparent towards the edges and thinner elements of the effect. The greater the intensity and density of the plasma, the greater to opacity should be. The weaker it is, the dimer and more transparent it should be. And I don’t see any electrical effect that’s been associated with plasma weapons in every single Halo game before.
These are core visual elements of Halo’s plasma weapons. Just like the rest of the game, Halo’s plasma weapons do have an established visual identity. Right now the effects look like they were taken from a game with a different artstyle. I don’t think they look terrible (I actually think they look nice), but they definitely clash with the rest of the game in a bad way.
I will say the frag grenade explosions don’t match the rest of the visual style as well. It’s visually jarring.
