We know from the books that many Covenant are still against us.
They are sort of rebels.
People never pay attention…
When will people finally get it that barely any of the Elites actually would want to stop the war. As seen in Glasslands, the Elites now see it not as a ‘holy war’, but as a necessary, to destroy Humanity completely before the UNSC can rebuild strength, and then; as they believe, exact vengeance for all the colonies destroyed.
It’s simply because some Elites don’t believe peace is possible, not after all the crimes committed, so its now survival of one or another. Really, they are scared that Humanity will come back and attack them.
I can instantly speculate were this whole plot line is going to lead. Greater threat will perhaps reconstruct the need for an alliance, or perhaps the new threat will destroy the Covenant altogether.
Perhaps 343 will do something similar to a plot line from Mass Effect, where both factions seemed to have too much blood on their hands for there to ever be some form of peace (300 years of war), but in the end, all it takes is for everyone to stop shooting for a second and a wonderful peace is created.
I’m putting my bet on something similar happening here.
The Covenant Empire was never allied with Humanity.
We got allied with the Separatist during the civil war. Most of the old Covenant forces have been defeated so inner tension in the separatist may cause a break up and also a lot of them see humanity as a threat.
Hi feihc a lot of people are wondering about this because it is quite the conundrum! Not only are Elites no longer friends to a human, they are also no longer an enemy to Prophets and Grunts and Bears (brutal) as seen in Halo Three!
So it is a big change but also not a change because if you remember the prequel Hallo Reach and also the Halo Anniversay Combat the humans fought the Elites in those games. Since those games are the freshest in player’s memories Microft Game Studio has made the wise decision to put the story engine in reverse and relive past hits by maneuvering events to this advantage.
