It really makes no sense to me why “Covenant Slayer” doesn’t give us a chance to play as Sangheili. Such a game mode title screams it to me. Even Halo 4 or Reach (I forget which) had a game mode with playable Sangheili.
What are your thoughts on this?
Halo 4 had a game mode with playable Sangheili? I think you might be remembering something wrong.
Personally, I’m not bothered by it, though it would have made significantly more sense if we did get to play as Sangheili.

Overall. Elites better be playable in Halo 6.
Simple. It’s a Wargames variant for Spartan-IVs to experiment with Covenant weaponry.
