I came up with this idea in another post and decided to give it its own. I had this idea for a covenant power weapon that would be in response to the UNSC rail gun. I call it the Shard launcher. It is a needle weapon with a 1 round magazine, would have about 10 additional rounds in reserve(It would have to be reloaded after each shot). each shot of the Shard Launcher is a three round burst(each shot that sticks reduces shields by half when it explodes, if all three stick then it causes a super combine explosion and kills you instantly). It would be able to pierce your shields(not take them down just go through) and do some health damage as well(Not very much). If all three needles hit, then they cause a very large super combine explosion(your dead instantly and it does some AOE to everyone that is within the explosive radius of the explosion). I think the Shard launcher would be a very capable weapon to go up against the UNSC Railgun. What does the community think and what ideas do you have for a new covenant power weapon?
honestly id like to see some sort of electricity weapon like an arc blaster but i think that’s more up the Promethean weapons alley and i agree that the shard cannon would be better as an anti vehicle weapon as it would most likely be a oneshot kill

The needles would be larger than standard needles and would carry more explosive force. It would be able to stick to vehicles and cause a supercombine explosion if all three stick the vehicle. the damage would be similar to the railgun, it would do some damage and flip the vehicle(It would take several hits to kill depending on the vehicle(Eg 2 for warthog, 4 for scorpion, 1 for mongoose))

If you now added a Reload after 1 shot/ Cooldown on it, i’d personally say it could have a role in Halo 5.

It has a a single burst shot magazine and 10 reserve rounds(Although this would change depending on how much ammo the railgun has in reserve)

Nah ignore him, some people just don’t elaporate on why they dislike some things.
Either way i’d suggest you present this ‘‘Shard Launcher’’ to 343i at a later date. Who knows, they listen to their community. I bet they’d take it into consideration. (I would)
Seems a lot of people want a power weapon that shoots needles, but the Needler is already a power weapon! with 5 needles hitting one target it detonates, seems deadly enough, but then there was the Needle Rifle, 3 needles causes a detonation. I would like to see another needle weapon but it wouldn’t seem to fit in, it just doesn’t seem right to shoot one needle per clip when a Needler can shoot almost 1000 of them per minute. Also I don’t think a 3 shot burst weapon would be much of a counter to a one shot accelerated round, nice idea though. The Railgun seems to be more of a counter to the Spartan Laser, fires quicker to take out infantry but not powerful enough to one shot kill a Warthog or Ghost.

The needler causes a supercombine in 12 needles(13 vs elites), 6 to down sheilds(7 for elites) and another 6 in order to cause the supercombine. it takes about half a clip on the needler to kill any target, I really don’t think it deserves to be labeled as a power weapon. it is powerful, but it is only effective against infantry. What I am suggesting is a needle weapon that is actually good against vehicles and causes a supercombine upon three needles. Plus the Shard Launcher would be hitscan, so they would hit instantly just like the railgun, they would be about equal in terms of effectiveness.
Launcher fires a large crystal that can imbed to walls and explode outward, imbed on vehicles and explode inward and can be exploded in all direction in a secondary fire function like the GL in Reach.
While the idea is cool, very reminiscent of the Needle Rifle (which I love), I must point out that your name doesn’t make much canonical sense.
You see, with the exception of the Plasma Grenade, Energy Sword and Gravity Hammer, the “type” of every Covenant equipment (weapon, vehicle, etc) is designated by the year it was first classed by the UNSC. For example, the Type-51 Carbine was first spotted and classed in 2551, the Type-25 Directed Energy Pistol (Plasma Pistol) was first seen in 2552 and the Type-55 Directed Energy Rifle/Advanced (Storm Rifle) was first seen in 2555.
One notable exception is the Type-32 Rapid Assault Vehicle, which first being seen at the Battle of Harvest in 2525, was most likely only classed in 2532.
However, the point is that having a weapon called the Type-37 while being made in 2553 or later doesn’t make much sense story-wise. I know it’s not a big deal, but hey, might as well give it a name that makes sense, no?

What would you suggest that I change it to? Would type-56 or 57 work better?

Oddly enough, that’s what I thought the Needle Rifle originally would be when those early Halo: Reach images leaked back in late-2009.

Yeah, that could work! I would go with Type-55 or Type-56, to coincide with the timeframe in which the Storm Rifle was put into service.
