covenant lingua franca

so the covenant’s main language before the great schism was sangheili.

did it remain the same after the great schism or was it changed to the brutes language or the san’shyuum ?

I think the Covenant that we see in the games would still be Covenant as Elites remain in control in both 4 and 5.

i am talking about the covenant that the pre dissolution covenant, the ones we fight in halo 3 and the final levels of halo 2

Logically speaking Sangheili would have remained as the lingua franca since there wasn’t enough time for people to learn another language within a month. After the war the Sangheili language has replaced the native languages of some species.

I want an actual dictionary.

And you won’t be able to use it. Sangheili is based on Japanese and has similar in some regards grammar and syntax as well as non literal translation. The language uses logograms and what appears to be a syllabary instead of an alphabet. Good luck with that.

How do you he’s not japanese? It might be a piece of cake for him.

This reminds me of Dimkee Hotay (the talkative and funny grunt in halo 5) He could speak “human” but not sangheili. Not sure how he received his orders though. I’m sure it’s canon.

He wouldn’t survive if he couldn’t speak Sangheili. Many things of those he says are easter eggs and references and shouldn’t be taken as canon. Also based on japanese doesn’t mean identical to it.

Damn I knew you would say that. Fine. But I don’t accept the claim Hotay isn’t fully canon. No! That’s heresy!

Hotay is canon. It’s just some of his quotes that aren’t.
