Why cant I play as Covenant in FFA? Not sure if this changed from 3 to Reach. Also when you change your preference the model shown to the right should stay as what you select not default back to Spartans. Just my two cents.

Because in Reach, Bungie decided to make it so that Spartans and Elites have very different stats and hitboxes. Elites have bigger hitboxes, but they move faster and jump higher. Elites have a bloom debuff when using UNSC weapons, but gain a target leading reticule when using plasma projectile weapons. In order to keep everything competitive (Not something I’m particularly a big fan of, I really like playing as elites too) most gamemodes are restricted to spartans only, or elites only with Custom games and Invasion being the only other cases.
