Mdama’s Covenant is destroyed, so who can fill the shoes of the new Covenant enemy? Perhaps one of the factions mentioned in Escalation? Or might there be traitors in the SoS ranks?
When walking around the SoS camp in H5G, you can find some Elites talking about how they dislike the Arbiter’s leadership style, especially how he breaks tradition (having doctors, females serving in the military, ect.)
Who can fill the Covenant’s place?
I’d rather see the traditional Covenant go away. They were defeated at the Battle of Sunaion and they should stay defeated. This doesn’t mean we shouldn’t have Sangheili, Unggoy or Kig-Yar enemies though. I would like to see the Created put together an army of citizens who willing join their cause. They can then be equipped with Forerunner technology and weaponry, so they can fight our own joint UNSC-Swords of Sanghelios faction.
There are plenty of ways to still fight Covenant enemies. It doesn’t need to be a singular faction. We could have pirates, scavengers, simply lone groups that have banded together to survive against the Created.

That’s a great idea,mate.
With the Covenant gone, a faction that has been ignored since halo 3. I am talking about the flood. It would be awesome to fight them with the new abilities and weapons (the SAW, the Railgun, etc.) Those of you who don’t realize how dangerous the flood is, there are entire galaxies infected. They could come from outside the galaxy and declare war on everyone. That would be something I want to see.
I’m pretty sure the Covenant hostiles we’ll fight in Halo 6 will be following Cortana. Given that Halo tends to add a new enemy group/class later in the game, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw some of those other super soldiers that have been hinted at, and/or the Flood.
Very doubtful that we’ll be fighting the Covenant species, we all are facing the grave threat of the Created. We all need to band together and put aside our former disputes and kick this enemy’s -Yoink-.
Given how Halo 5 dealt with the largest Covenant remnant, I think it would be awkward if the Covenant made a return in future Halo games. I mean, when Halo 4 came out, and Covenant Elites were a main enemy type, I was surprised. 343i had to do a lot of explaining, both in-game and in the extended universe, to fully flesh out the idea behind Covenant remnants and Elites who were still religious for some reason. Now Halo 5 has dealt with the Storm Covenant, having them completely destroyed in the Battle of Sunaion. It would require much explanation if an organized Covenant were to appear in 6 (any explanation 343i could come up with would seem, to me, a cop out).
