Covenant DON'T speak English :(

If you listen closely in the E3 campaign demo, the elite says “Wort wort wort”. Also the grunt may say “Demon” but the first word he says is unrecognisable.

I’m really annoyed by this cause I loved the comical lines from the grunts in halo 3, it adds a relaxed funny side to the game.

Yeah…the Covenant only spoke English in the lore to announce your demise. Cutting the Grunts’ comedy may be odd, but considering 343i changed their looks so dramatically to make them fierce, it suits them.

While this isn’t necessarily a problem, I think it I’ll miss it.

Then again we haven’t seen enough footage to say this for certain.

We may not be able to hear them speak English because the Covenant Storm are using an alternate to the original Covenant tech.

:frowning: aw man, im gonna miss the Grunts speaking english. even the funny parts. :’(

Reach campaign blah…need I say more? It was just boring and repetitive, although not just because of the language…

Just thought I’d bring it up be because there was a thread about this subject not long ago and I think people thought that they did speak English.

This.

I actually enjoy the more realistic approach where Chief’s translator isn’t on. It’s more immersive and believable. I’ve always found it silly when I hear aliens speaking English.

I think the english made the game a little too cartoony.

I will miss the classic lines from Elites in Halo 2 though, but that only made sense because of the story.

Wait when was this confirmed? I know it hasn’t been confirmed that they can but it sure hasn’t be confirmed that their not. Also it wouldn’t make sense because I hight doubt they forgot how to speak from halo 3 to halo 4. Also the E3 build was old it is likely they were still borrowing things from reach and the audio might have been placeholder.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

-breath-

oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

-pant pant-

it’s OK, They look bad -Yoink- enough, and as ling as the grunt speak SOME English I am good

Good, I hope it stays that way. I mean Grunts were kind of goofy and all that but when Elites started speaking English - damn. That lame -Yoink- dialect they spoke in just killed it for me. Good riddance.

sure, the rest of the covenant used English, it’s just the storm boycotting English. funny dude.

I think it’s closer to reality when an alien race does not joke in English and shouts wort wort wort at you

Yeah, maybe. Also it would be cool if they speak in native tongue to each other but shout things in English at the chief. I would be ok with that.

They all learnt how to speak English in Halo 3, why aren’t they speaking it in Halo 4?

Elites said Wort Wort Wort in every Halo game, regardless of english. Chances are when they talk to eachother you will hear gibberish. But when they are harassing you, you will hear English.

I have a question How can I post on here and ask a question related to Halo Reach, The reason i am asking at the momment is I disagree with the game when im on my brothers account and im playing and i lag out of the game sometimes due to bad or poor connection, and it counts you as quitting i think that should be a problem to be fixed. Due to that i have been banned twice already in the past couple of days…and I don’t know how to post a forum so I decided to ask one of you guys to help me out with that and help me out with this problem.

All I heard was a grunt shout something that sounded like “Debi-Demon”, but I know I heard demon. They are supposed to speak english.

They usually speak the Covenants language when by them selves, but we would still hear them as english because chief has a translator in his helmet. This is stated in I think a few of the books. SIII’s SPI armor, as well as Noble Team’s MJOLNIR Mk. V Gen 1 armor don’t have the translators.

I remember hearing grunts speak english in one of the Spartan Ops gameplays as well.
