Ok so, after reading the latest game informer, the covenant are back ( was also confirmed by Frankie a couple of weeks ago but never mind), and by the looks of things, they look less “equipped” than before. The elite minor, doesn’t have any arm armour on, and a lot more skin is on show, and the same can be said for the grunts( yeah they have a helmet and backpack but they are essentially naked). Now I have a theory that either the elites have killed off the brutes, and have reclaimed the covenant as there own, and for some reason think its fine, to fight humanity again, or the other option is that maybe, humanity started to fight the elites, as “revenge”.
I haven’t yet read grasslands so I don’t know the current state of the elites, but I could really see a lot of human colonies being pretty angry against the elites still, so maybe a small part of humanity decided to fight the elites, and now they elites, are holding it against all of humanity?
If you read Glasslands it talks about how a lot of Elites don’t like humans still and a lot of them think the Arbiter is a traitor.
I think the Elites will stick with the Humans from now on. I don’t think they’d be that dumb to fight the humans again. I think they have made their military weaker because they don’t need it very much anymore or something like that.
Either rumour, rampant speculation, or cold hard fact says they’re scavengers. Rogues on the hunt for whatever spacebound goodies they can find.
It wasnt a full alliance, also Glasslands does explain it much better. Arby is trying to say “Hey these humans are cool and all, lets be friendly towards them and all.” but alot of elites are like “No way those gais were dooshes lets be mean we dont like them still!” so im guessing some were like yeah and maybe… joined up the covenant again? So like Some are allies and some are enemies.
Hey, that would explain some elites fighting others in MP, some are human friends and some are separatists…
Elites don’t even know how to farm their own worlds, let alone make ships. All they can do is fight with what they have left, and after that they’re done.
Humanity on the other hand, has the intelligence to build ships, colonize world and create new Technologies. The Elites would be limited to try and fight the Humans again, hence why the Arbiter wants peace.
You guys are idiots.
These AREN’T OUR ELITES.
It’s obvious.
They’re part of whatever new enemy it will be. They’re obviously another culture of the covenant living in this part of the galaxy. They have no relation to ours other than being elites and grunts etrc…

You’re making out that your speculation is 100% true. Stop being a tool, we’re just giving out theories.
Glasslands is the only book I still have yet to read (sitting on my bookshelf tempting everyday). That said, I’m still in the dark on some things. But, at the end of H3, although the war was considered over, I never got the impression that a truce was officially made with the Covenant remnants, nor was the entire Sanghelli race on the arbiter’s side.
There seemed to be certainly a lot of room for continued conflict between Human and Covenant forces.
My two cents, if its worth that.

For all we know we could be working together alongside the covenant in order to fight the new threat.
We have no confirmation on that yet, seriously.

Erm, have you not read the info/ seen the screens from Game Informer ?
Kind of confirms it …
It could be a rouge group. There are those who believe Artbiter is a traitor but the end events of Glassalands could change that a bit as well.
Personally, I’d say it’s just a group of Covies that are out of touch with what is going on.
I find it very interesting they open up 4 on a ship - fighting Elite/Grunts - ala Halo CEA.
Maybe the elites that attack forward unto dawn in Halo 4 haven’t got informed about chief being on that ship and then sees him as a threat since they don’t know who he is?
Read Glasslands. The dismantling of the Covenant left the Elites without their Prophets, Engineers, and military gear. These Elites that attack during the first level are rogue; they are underequipped and are desperate for supplies and would’ve attacked anyone on that ship, even if it was other Elites or cute puppy dogs.
It fits beautifully.
the reason they are ill equipped is because they are rogue covenant, some of them probably just became scavangers and splinter groups after the fall of the covenant, which is why they arnt the main enemy.
Both the Humans AND the Elites were divided into two after the Human/Covenant war.
Lord Hood and Elite sympathizers want an alliance with Elites, seeing the potential they can do together, beating the Covenant, and technological gains from both sides. Another Admiral, and the head behind ONI, is trying to sabotage the alliance, and grant humans a chance to get “revenge” on the Elites by killing them all off.
Elites following the Arbiter, sympathized with Humans and wanted to form an alliance. Another group of Elites, the Servants of Abiding Truth, realize that the Humans will try to kick them while their down (Oni), and as of Glasslands are trying to kill the Arbiter, and unite the Elites against the Humans.
Best guess is that either the Servants succeed and kill the Arbiter, banding together a united Elite force and a Covenant of lesser species’ (which according to glasslands would include a minority faction of Brutes who chose to side with Elites instead of Prophets). OR the Covenant we see is the torn faction of Elites following the Servants, and there will still be Elites following the Arbiter. And a group of Elites will still be allies.

I think he has a point, the elites that sided with humans, “fully”, were the sympathizers and warmongers. The religious ones and skeptics have always hated humans, skeptics: out of fear of humans regaining power with new technology and attacking elites out of revengeful motives, religious: Purely because, like the prophets we endanger their religion with our very existence, we’re living proof that the forerunners really aren’t gods and we are the closest to them than any other race will be.
Also, the more we find out about Forerunners the more we belittle their godlike status, which aggravates the Sangheili religious leaders, they are willing to mutilate people of their own race for speaking out against the Forerunners, let alone humans. This could be why some elites are back in the covenant, not under the prophets influence, which would explain the odd armor of the elites and grunts alike, but under their own directives, seeking to recover Forerunner artifacts to worship and possibly revers-engineer for the future improvement of their stagnating civilization, a stagnation that humans are having no problems with, what so ever.
> the reason they are ill equipped is because they are rogue covenant, some of them probably just became scavangers and splinter groups after the fall of the covenant, which is why they arnt the main enemy.
There we go.
