Covenant against UNSC

What is the reason why the covenant started the war against humans? And when did the covenant human war start? Leave your answers here below in the comments please and thank you

Hardcorewili thanks you

When the Covenant first found humanity on Harvest, the brutes who made first contact had a forerunner luminary that identified humans as ‘Reclaimer’. The covenant mistranslated this as ‘Reclaim’ and assumed the markers on the luminary were artifacts rather than humans. After a tense first meeting, a jumpy marine squad panicked and opened fire on a squad of grunts igniting the conflict on Harvest. Meanwhile the prophets of Truth, Mercy, and Regret learned of the mistranslation and realized that humans had been labeled by the forerunners as worthy of their legacy. Fearing the collapse of the Covenant faith and the loss of all their power, the prophets declared war on humanity and wouldn’t accept anything other than humanity’s total annihilation.

It’s all in the book Contact Harvest if your interested in the whole story, it’s a great read.
