Counterintuitive Topic Ahoy! Rank/CSR

First of all, if you do comment, keep it nice.

Anyways…
Some people are too entitled.
First there was complaining about the fact that there wasn’t any type of ranking, 1-50, etc stuff in Halo 4. Now, this is understandable. It’s like me and my spartan armour. I love customization and yeah, I’d be fairly upset if something I liked was gone, that’s perfectly understandable.

What I don’t understand though…
Is how people can still complain about the whole CSR thing?
Isn’t that a type of ranking? 343i didn’t even have to consider adding it in but they did and it’s to my understanding at least that they’re actually trying to put ranking in Halo 4 via title update(s). Sure, it may not be in-game like Halo 3 had it but seriously?
They’re throwing a bone to all the people that wanted ranks! Once again, I understand that it may be tedious going on a computer to check your rank instead of having it displayed in-game, I understand that perfectly, I’d feel the same way if armour customization was done on the website only instead of in-game. I wouldn’t be the happiest but hey! It’d be a step up and complete improvement from where things currently were!

I’m not trying to attack anyone or a group of people but please help me out here, I am just dumbfounded at how people can still try and complain?

Also, this isn’t aimed/ geared towards people saying that it better not be like how the arena in Reach was, it’s aimed towards those who insist on complaining about it not being visible in-game.

As a consumer it is our entitlement and duty to decry anything we do not like. If we didn’t future products would only decrease in quality. 60$ is alot to spend on digital entertainment. In my case 120$. So you damn well better believe I will speak my mind about where my money is going.

To expect anything less is silly.

You’re acting like they are adding in something new instead of just continuing to provide something which comes hand in hand with Halo. Same goes with gametypes like Race, Assault, and Juggernaut. That stuff is EXPECTED, and the forums going crazy at the news of its absence is proof of that. No one will shut up because it is just unbelievable that it was even taken out.

Completely understandable, even if not digital entertainment, $60 - $120 is still a ton of money.

But wouldn’t it be assumed that since they’re trying to add them in as quick as possible for rank lovers, that they’d attempt to do so in future games?

Sorry, but I fail to see how I’m acting like they’re adding something new. I personally think I’m acting like someone that is confused that people still aren’t satisfied, even with the fact that it’s not something 343i had to do.

They could have simply said “Yes, there’s ranking in Halo 4” which is arguable because matchmaking does take skill into more consideration just like how “ranking” would be, I assume anyways. And left it at that but instead, they’re trying to get a TU out with ranks for the rank lovers!

Its like if they let you customize your spartan after taking it away, but people can only see in the waypoint.

This thread again?

> This thread again?

People quickly forget on this forum!

> Its like if they let you customize your spartan after taking it away, but people can only see in the waypoint.

That kind of thing doesn’t work with me though. You see, I like customization for myself, I couldn’t care less if others see how my spartan looks.

I’ve even came up with multiple background stories for said spartan, stories that no one but me and a few close friends will ever know about which is fine with me.

So I don’t exactly see the want for others to see your rank, sorry.

Given some of the attitudes taken by staffers of 343. Not necessarily. Calling someone that enjoys a certain aspect of a game “obsessed” is hardly painting yourself in a good light. I want in-game rank for one simple reason. So I can see how I stack up to player pre-lobby. I was never especially amazingly high in rank, 30 in Halo 3, 22 in Halo 2, however having a dynamic property that changes with your performance and is immediately visible is satisfying.

Rank has been important in Halo since 2. Reach downplayed it significantly by using a VERY lax 1-100 system and making it only visible in Waypoint. Seeing Ranks in Waypoint does me no good at all. And defeats the purpose entirely for me.

But since they want to cater to the crowd that easily has their feelings hurt, I am even willing to meet halfway. Let me see MY rank in game and hide everyone’s else from me.

I AM NOT obsessed.
I AM NOT bragging.
I AM NOT hardcore EM EL GEE XD.
Hell,
I AM NOT even good at Halo.

I just like an additional dynamic to keep the game interesting.

> So I don’t exactly see the want for others to see your rank, sorry.

People can sugercoat it all they want!

They want it for e-peen, bragging rights and of course to be able to distinguish themselves from the rabble aka “n00b” not necessarily all of the reasons but at least on of them!

If it’s not then other people don’t need to see it, there are only negative aspects to visable rank as far as I see it!

I only see threads complaining about people complaining about ranks not being visible in-game.

The whole point of the ranking system is to see how you compare to others. What’s the point if you can’t see other people’s rank? I don’t want to type in everyone’s name into waypoint 10 seconds before the game starts.

It’s like what someone just said about what if armor was only visible online? It’s the casual equivalent to rank. I don’t care about armor so if they made it only appear online I would be fine with that.

I missed the committee meeting when we decided on acronyms, what the hell does CSR mean?

A staff member at 343i called people that want ranks obsessed? Ouch, that certainly wasn’t the best move on their behalf…

Not much I can say about the rest of your post other than, it makes sense and it’s understandable that you’d even settle for seeing your own rank but…

I might be making this up out of thin air but I swear I heard somewhere that Waypoint is able to be launched from the Halo 4 menu, meaning that you don’t even have to really exit the game, assuming they show ranks on Waypoint on consoles as well as the website itself.

(sorry if my wording is terrible, I’m feeling fairly tired)

My point EXACTLY.

Sorry but i don’t buy that!

The disadvantages for a visable rank far outweigh the few advantages!

Imagine I was complaining about dynamic shadows in forge, you’re argument of “even if you don’t like it, you should be happy it’s there” would be fine and even valid. But visible skill ranking has been in Halo ever since Halo 2 revolutionized online multiplayer. I should not be thankful that they put it in as an afterthought hidden away in some corner of their website, it’s just a slap in the face to everyone who’s ever enjoyed it.

I never said I like vagueness in any way. I’m simply stating that it’s something they could have done but didn’t.
I still don’t see how I’m acting like it’s something new. I stated that I know it was in Halo 3.

Not going to further reply to you after that highlighted section, sorry but if you can’t be thankful, I can’t see our discussion going any further.

Because first its not going to be seen for months, well after the multiplayer dies (like reach did) and second its not what we have been asking for, the only ranking system that will keep game competative is one people can always see. The ammount of people who will actually get on waypoint to check this “skill” based rank will be very minimal. All we ask is for one simple thing. In game visual ranks… its not that hard really it isnt.

> The ammount of people who will actually get on waypoint to check this “skill” based rank will be very minimal.

Then it can’t be such a big deal for people anyway if the can’t be bothered to go online!

You may even be able to see what ranks you were up against in match history and if you to lazy too check that well… then you maybe don’t deserve any rank at all!
