I just got halo wars back and am pretty new. Really early on in playing 1v1’s I ran into this issue when playing against the Prophet where they build a temple and then just warehouses to quickly make the thing unkillable even with bad micro. It happens too fast to really get an army that is capable of fighting it, and it gives the opponent early map control. The player used the prophet to ward off my units and grab two extra generators and the prophet could fly so he constantly used it to harrass my base to the point where if I left he could just use his special ability and destroy the reactors I did have. How do you fight this?
I take it you’re playing UNSC? otherwise you should be able to use your own leader to do pretty much the same.
As UNSC the best thing you can do is get warthogs for early game, (I prefer to play as anders but this should work as any UNSC) at the start of the match queue 2 supply pads and 4 hogs, send your starting hog as far away from your base as you can to pick up resourses (Learning the locations of the map resourses will server you very well in MP) Continue to queue more supply pads and warhogs (it is very important that your build doesn’t fall behind at any point) queue a reactor 5th and get gunner for your warthogs (you should have 5 or 6 warthogs by now and with these you should be able to gain some map control, I can usually get these up by 2.30 (game timer) at which point i will go attack the prophet with the goal of killing his leader + any supply pads i can before retreating to gain a second base and control of any hooks that i don’t already. After this your best bet against a covy in 1’s is to go either Hogs and Hornets/H.A.W.X or wolverienes and Hornets/H.A.W.X as these are rather difficult for covanent to counter effectively Scorpions/grizzlys + Hornets/H.A.W.X can also work quite well, but this is more vulnerable to air (In particular banshees) and you also lack an effective counter for Vampires that they will inevitably use on your air. As such tanks and air combo works better against UNSC players
prophet is easy for UNSC to stop. gunner hogs just out manoeuvre him, forcing the prophet to stay in his base and put turrets up. meanwhile you can do whatever you want until he gets up 2 turrets so he can leave the base. on most maps the PoR will go for wraiths, but he’ll have like 1 and you’ll have about 7 or 8 hogs and will probably be getting tech 2 up. then just go for hogs and hornets + Spartans if you can.
Anders + gunner hogs = dead PoR
Good build order against any opponent as Anders is:
- supply pad
- reactor
- supply pad
- supply pad / barracs (if there is hooks)
ASAP reactor is ready research the gunner. Also keep hogs to be produced continuously. About 4-5 gunner hogs can take down the non-upgraded PoR. Later the gauss hogs will do the trick.

Personally i go Supply pad x4 then reactor 5th to research gunner (by this point i already have between 5 and 7 warhogs depending on the number of map resourses i’ve been able to collect)
as soon as i have gunner i attack my opponent with the aim of taking down their leader (POR can be taken out by 5 guunner hogs with ease even if he has fuel rods, you just take down his sheilds then Ram) this attack usually lands about 2.30 game time, after gunner is researched i either go barraks for hooks then a final supply pad and put unit production on a scond base, or if there are no hooks such as reactors then i go reactor air pad and start working toward hornets to go with my hogs that will now be getting grenadier.
after attack my opponent with the hogs i retreat to build a second base + gain any hooks that are available, I now pump hornets and go for gauss for my hogs in order to attack again.
this works fine in 1s 2s & 3s, it works even better if you can take a second base right off the bat with your starting funds, although you do have to slightly adjust your build order.

This is a perfect strategy. I’ve taken down leaders in 3v3s this way, and those players shortly rage quit after that, and then sending me some pretty funny rage mail.
The guns plus the ram ability can be really effective against all leaders really. It’s just that the Arbiter could be a problem. But, if you micro all the hogs just right, you shouldn’t have a problem stopping the leaders. Then, you can go harass their unshielded base.

I know from my experience as prophet that this is the best way to deal with me. I can stop forge because he can’t afford to lose a hog early so I just put one turret up and hunter rush, but it is insanely hard to beat a good cutter/anders on any map.

Well, I would rush with hogs and then stack enough for a MAC blast too. Just in case the warthogs don’t seem to do the job. So yes, if you’re good with Cutter or Anders, with quick warthog development, then the Prophet is in for a world of hurt if he doesn’t get at least 5 hunters on the ground.
Like everyone else said be anders and use warthogs with gunner you can out manuver him and take him down.
and entire army of jackals insta kill prophet
> and entire army of jackals insta kill prophet
that kills every leader in about 1 second.

ya but atleast brute and arbys weapons can kill one or 2 of them. prophets stupid beam things just bounce off.
3 Spartans with chaingun kills him easly to.
> 3 Spartans with chaingun kills him easly to.
yeah but I will have beam jackals and regret’s doom > your Spartans.
You’re generally better off going for 5 gunner hogs, they’re a pretty decent counter for most rushes and are harder for a prophet to kill than a few spartans are, not least since it’s a lot easier for the prophet to cleansing beam your spartans into oblivion than it is for him to take out hogs in the same manner, the prophet could also easily bring honor guards or jackles along for the ride. At which point your spartans are rather dead.
Also hogs cost less than spartans, 300x3 for spartans + 300 for upgrade (150 if anders) = 1200 (1050 if anders) total for spartans compared with 150x4 for hogs (assuming you kept your starting hog alive) + 500 (250 if anders) = 950 (or 700 for anders). Not to mention you will need a barracks for your sprtans which will add another 150 to the cost and will likely be inplace of 1 warehouse lowering your overall eco at the start of the game.
Thats a growing problem in 1v1 is PoR rapid levelling early on. Especially if your UNSC and don’t have vampires. Like most people have said best way to combat prophet rush is warthogs. A great idea is to send one warthog to his base and place a disruptor on his teleporter pad. That way he cannot teleport home and is an easy kill.

I just answer to the question how to kill a prophet. 3 spartans with chaingun do the job but like all unit’s you have to protect them with other units. Because he will do this to. I use warthogs and flametrowers for this. Just send the warthogs to the back of him and let them drive from left to right. Use the flamers as a wall to the Prophet and the spartans can attack him from a distance. He will be sandwiched between the flamers/spartans and the hogs.
The spartans cost a lot that’s true, but there are a lot of maps with hooks where the are fantastic to put in. And the barrack isn’t a waste because of the flamers u can make there.
The first thing I make when the game starts is a turret and 3rd I build a reactor so I can upgrade him to flame and go for gunner for the warthogs. After this I am going for the barrack and 3 flamers and after that it is time for the spartans and chaingun. I keep building hogs. After 7 warthogs I am going to make hornets or tanks extra. If the hogs die I make new one to 7. I use the warthogs for scout and map control. If he make some units other than his leader you can ram them if you are early, if he had to many just go back to your base and defent with your flamers and turret and go back later if you kill his units/leader as he not resigned already.
i don’t usually build any production buildings on my starting base unless i’m cutter in 3v3’s, i do in 2v2’s and 1v1’s but not usually a barracks :). i also forgo any turrets as they suck.
for me it’s
Supply pad x2 > hog x4 (send starting hod to gater resourses, and send other hogs to look for resourses they moment they build) > supply pad > hog > supply pad > reactor > hog > Gunner upgrade on hogs > *send hogs to gain me a second base > *send hogs to harass enemy > on second base > supply pad x2 upgrade main base > reactor > Vehcle depo on main/air pad on secondary base start building scorps/hornets) > 3rd rector on second base > canny upgrade/wingman upgrade > harass enemy some more wilst working toward army of scorps + hawx
works well in most 3’s
