"Could we have a Sitting Mechanic in Halo5?"

Hello!

Before I begin, I do hope that this has made its way to an appropriate recipient, as it is about in game features that could be added in a later update. This is merely a concept, but with the application of this is-- it could prove to be yet another amazing tool for Forge (as well as Machinima)!

This idea that I am proposing, is a “Sitting Mechanic”
Below are the files that show a more or less, (pardon my below part drawing skills) depictions of what I mean by “Sitting Mechanic”. I will do my very best to describe the nature of this mechanic, and if there are any questions after your completion of the text below, please contact me.

As the implementation of (the official…) vehicle welding, was a total and utter success in a previous update-- some of my friends and I have discovered that by placing a mongoose in nearly any enviornment, on phased, one can create a “seat”.

While this is an innovation, I see it having even potential, mainly, when I look at the animation of “sitting” itself.

You’re probably wondering, "what’s so important about the ‘sitting,’ and what does it have to do with anything?"

My point that I am trying to make is that we have no chairs that we can properly sit in, in the gameplay universe of Halo. There is no “sitting” in Halo, merely, crouching. For a long time in machinima, we bluntly crouched on a surface and said, “look, this means I’m sitting.” Which works well in my opinion, and doesn’t take away anything from the video.

But the idea still pops in my head, “what if we could have some form of interface or mechanic, that would allow us to quite literally sit down.” Not as in laying down on a floor, but quite literally, sitting on an elevated surface. Such as, the posture one would make if they were sitting in a chair. I can immediately make connections to interfaces such as this that already exist in the game, or that which did, in previous games.

In Halo: Reach, whether you liked it or not, there was a mission titled “New Alexandria”. On this mission, a full squad of players could board a Falcon, utilizing 4 of the 5 seats. When mods were available near the end of Reach’s glory days, we could see many individuals pulling in their friends to try this out. The idea of boarding the “passenger seats” was thrilling, and was something we did not yet before possess, for things such as video making. So we loved it. The “Postures” that I am going to suggest below are relative to that idea of sitting in those passenger seats.

As you can see in “Posture 1,” a Spartan is sitting with their posture straight, and their hands on their knees, very similar to how a Spartan (in Halo: Reach) would appear.

In “Posture 2,” a Spartan sits with their weapon raised. This posture is identical to how a Spartan model would appear while riding a Mongoose (In every halo… with a Mongoose, this is seen).

In “Posture 3,” one can see a Spartan with one leg free hanging, and the other positioned as though it were for balance. One might recall that Emile in Halo: Reach sat at the edge of a Pelican sitting like this in one of the final missions. His posture also including an arm, with its wrist planted, on the knee of the appropriate leg, used for bracing. As it would be the most realistic positioning for it.

The overall application one could have with this feature is placing a “Posture Point” or “Sitting Location” on any surface, such as thay of the newly added beach chairs we recieved in the last update. A Spartan could now have an animation for sitting , rather than a simple crouch from the toggle of the Left Stick.

This could provide many sources of entertainment, or could even allow for “Troop” vehicles to make a comeback, such as the Halo: Reach Falcon, or even the Troop Warthog!

There are other “Postures” that I would suggest as possible additions, but I just want the general concept of this to be heard.

I found this to be a logical feature to add to the game, as it is clear that these interfaces, presenting postures for the model, already exist in both current and previous game. Whether the animations could be taken directly from those interfaces, I have no idea, but I could hope a decision regarding it could be made, fairly easy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I sincerely apologize if any of this text is unclear. So as I said, please contact me if there is any confusion, or anyone who finds this idea to be a great one, please comment below.

Sincerely,
ShinyMonkeyWes

I KNOW RIGHT?! The only way for it to be noticed is to send this forum to all your friends!

I need to sit down…

“BUT YOU CAN’T SIT DOWN”

This would make Machinimas SO MUCH BETTER.

Exactly!!!

It could even be used for custom games! For game types such as Infection, or even big team battle-- giving us the ability to, even if we had the option to pace a position, for sitting down. Like I said in my article, we could thus have the ability to make “troop” vehicles.

I also look at the possibility of making chairs, that we can actually use.

I didn’t quite dive in too deep on it, but the beach chair is too small for a Spartan to crouch on. By that I mean the Spartan does not fit between the arm rests. We just kind of float above the seat, crouching. It’s a cool (beans of a…) prop, but it’s just for the sick looks.

In previous games, we had folding chairs (such as Reach), so it’d be kind of cool to see those have a comeback
