To be honest with you all, I do not think that DMR is OP, it is built to do what it does best, which is kill people at very long ranges incredibly quickly and incredibly easily… However, that is a problem.
A “nerf” to this gun will not fix the issue, and giving “buffs” to other weapons won’t do any good ethier. In my opinion, the detremental factor that makes the DMR such a rocky subject amongst the forums is all down to this weapons astonishing range.
The fatal factor is that at extreme distances the DMR still has the added bonus of “aim assist”. Now, this alone presents 2 major problems. The first is that due to the larger hitboxes and the heavy bullet magnatism, bloom becomes a redundant penalty, making hitting the target ridiculously easy. You can fire at a distant target as fast as possible and, due to the previously mentioned, achieve a kill with minimal effort. Such a strong weapon should be much harder to handle. The second problem is that without the “being shot takes you out of scope” element being present, the DMR can comfortably take on practically ANY weapon at a distance and have a high chance of success. This means that if you are moving around the map and start taking hits from a DMR user, it’s game over. Unless you find cover, death is inevitable. The fundamental issue here is the “It’s game over” part. Since players cannot de-scope enemies anymore, they cannot defend there self in this situation, creating an overwhelming sense of hopelessness and oppression when facing this weapon. BUT if players could de-scope each other, then these problems would be reduced dramatically. A skilled DMR can counter a close range weapon as it has a fast rate of fire, imagine if a skilled BR/carbine user could counter a DMR at long range by de-scoping them and causing them to miss vital shots, giving those mid range players a valuable and deserved safety net.
All in all, the range of this starter weapon creates so many problems in the Halo MP, it kills map movement because no one wants to move from fear of being obliterated by a DMR user. Players become much harder to engage since they camp at distant parts of the map. Map design is limited, maps can no longer be rolling sand dunes or sprawling green hills due to the ability to spawn with a “mini sniper”. But the weapon is here to stay, and this franchise will never be the same now that it is, for better or worse.
P.s… I know a lot may disagree with my views on this weapon, but please keep it clean. I’m a consumer who is entitled to their opinion.
