Could the SMG be added and fill a role?

yeah silenced and scoped had a wonderful place in the dynamic battlefield of halo.

We’d need Dual Wield then also, SMG’s are nothing with Dual Wield.

> Yes, I’ve been saying this forever! The Silenced SMG is a very unique weapon that has a spot in the sandbox and I would have a total fangasm if it returned! Hell, I’d even take the regular SMG. If we can have the BR and DMR why not AR/SMG?

Well, I’d say the BR and DMR have an appropriate contrast due to the different ranges they can cover effectively, while the SMG seems to be a weaker AR with shorter range effectiveness.

Adding a scope to it however would give it a unique role as a full auto weapon with capabilities of extra range while not pushing over other scoped weapons due to the lack of its headshot capability.

> Give us the good ol’ SMG, with the 45-round magazine from the suppressed variant, maybe a bit less. Make the weapon A low-damage, low accuracy secondary weapon. It gives a bit variety to that weapon slot, and filling in the close range niche that will be needed for DMR and Carbine users.

> Compared to the AR, it would have the same base accuracy, with rapid bloom expansion, but a bit smaller bloom than the AR(to make up for the fast rate of fire). Damage would be much less to balance out the magazine capacity. It would have a quick reload and weapon swap time, to help its role as a secondary.

What if the H4 SMG came like this:

  • Unsuppressed
  • Scoped, no headshot capability
  • 48 round mag with damage a step down from AR
  • No bloom, but keep the large spread
  • High ROF

Yes it would be a great secondary to compliment DMR and BR. The balance would be there to counter a AR, Pistol loadout. As long as the AR is actually effect as they’ve shone so far and doesn’t get nerfed.

For the record, I imagine it as a primary. Would it be too weak for that?

The weapon is meant to fill a close quarters role, not a ranged one. Giving it the extra range that the scope provides, but keeping the spread and giving it low damage would be counter-intuitive. The weapon wouldn’t be different enough from the AR to actually warrant it being a primary anymore. Especially since it can no longer be dual wielded.

Could make a nice secondary weapon.

It would fit perfectly as an additional secondary weapon option. Pistol/ Plasma pistol alternative.

We already have a scoped automatic, albeit a non-hitscan one, in the form of the Storm Rifle. I’d like to see a place for the SMG, but being a hitscan counterpart to the Storm Rifle isn’t the way to go.

Then where should it stand? If 343 chooses to add this weapon, it may be difficult finding the right place for it where it would be a viable tool to use over the AR.

Adding duel weilding to a select few guns (if not only the SMG) would bring back the problem of the gun being weaker all together when used alone.

Live it as a secondary would just love it!

It should stand as a low-damage automatic secondary weapon. Giving it a faster weapon switch time than the primaries.

I like your idea.

How about it does the same damage as the AR but the accuracy and damage drop over range like 15 meters.
And has a bloom that expand quickly when fired.
So it has not much range capacity.

That sounds balanced to me.

I would love the smg in h4 it would have a easy role to play. It could be scoped ,silenced or just stock. It doesn’t have to be on the map but at least put it in the loadout options. I would buy it in the form of dlc along with other haloverse weapons. More weapon variety causes more unique gameplay situations wich equals lasting appeal. So 343 think about it halo is long over due for weapon variety.

This. It would be best as a secondary, as it has always been. High ROF, low accuracy and low damage unless within the given damage radius.

I do hope it returns, or we get say a new forerunner weapon like it, maybe the forerunner repeater hinted at in a blog a couple of weeks ago?

The default SMG would fill the space between short and medium range combat. It could have a fast RoF, low damage, and high bullet spread (compared to the AR) .

The silenced smg would do the same, but bring more to the table by having a scope and a silencer so other enemies won’t hear gunfire.

The SMG would add more choice to the custom loadouts, The Battle Rifle, Carbine, DMR and loads of other weapons are returning. I don’t see why the SMG would be left out of the mix.
