Just rewatched all the cutscenes from Spartan Ops and it got me thinking. The original Prometheans were ancient humans, and later, humans from New Phoenix. This suggests that the Composer the Didact used had a direct link to Requiem.
Now we don’t know where the Didact is. I assume he ended up back on Requiem when he fell into the slipspace rupture at the end of Halo 4. Since we never encounter him in Spartan Ops I think it’s safe to assume that he left Requiem some time during the six months between Halo 4 and Spartan Ops.
At the end of Spartan Ops Requiem is destroyed, taking with it all of the Prometheans left on its surface. The Didact may have taken some of them with him, but there can’t be many left.
One could argue that there were more Composers and more shield worlds, but there were no Prometheans on Onyx or the shield world from Halo Wars, and they don’t seem to present on any of the Halos or Arks (at least the ones we’ve visited in the games or books).
What do you guys think. Personally I’d be ok if 343i decided they were killed off on Requiem and we got back to Covenant/Flood in Halo 5.
Prometheans were a welcome change of pace, but overall I was disappointed. Essentially, the Halo 4 offerings didn’t do much to convey the grandeur and might of the Forerunner war machine.
They brought some cool stuff to the table - teleport, crawler-class enemies, those aerial drones, and a few interesting weapons.
But they weren’t Forerunners. The whole digitizing Ancient Humanity storyline was a bit of a stretch to this guy. It was convincing enough that ancient humans lost a galactic war and were genetically regressed. But turned into mindless combat robots? You could have given us mindless combat robots and they wouldn’t have been any different.
I’d be perfectly okay if Promethean Knights never returned. I’d much rather see honest to god Forerunner Warriors, Prometheans, War Sphinxes, and beyond before they rehash Halo 4’s forerunner offerings.

I agree completely. Even in the original trilogy, Forefunners, to me, have always been Sentinels and their variants, as well as the monitors. I would have loved for the Promethean Knights to have been just another Sentinel variant rather than digitized humans, it would have fit much better with what we had before.
Prometheans, while great in theory, just didn’t look, feel or act like Forerunner constructs at all.
It’s possible for them to be gone but it’s also possible for the Didact and his New Phoenix abductees to be transported elsewhere and keep up a small army.
I suspect you’ll see them make an appearance but maybe not a combat role, in the coming Halo games.
The fact that Jul 'Mdama almost certainly kept his remaining Prometheans after fleeing Requiem dictates that the Prometheans will return.
However, after seeing that the Halo 4 EVG calls the Prometheans the ‘Prometheans of Requiem’ rather than just the Prometheans seems to hint that we will be seeing new Prometheans… Soon…

Well…the Promethean Knights and such ARE about as native to Requiem as a killer deathdroid can be native to a place.

“The Covenant used to be the main threat”, and it better be kept that way in the Reclaimer saga.

Perhaps. I had an idea for Prometheans of Requiem that I’d cooked up. The few remaining ones Jul kept would be used as body-guards and as such could be used for epic boss-battles able to bring everything that 343 wanted to with them, and have it not be over-powered.
> > I never liked the prometheans.

> They’re getting the same reception the Flood got when they were first revealed.
Minus the surprise factor and being scared of playing 343 Guilty Spark and running through the terror halls of The Library. The only thing Halo 4s Prometheans got in common with Halo CEs Flood is the bullet sponginess.
Your guess is as good as any’s OP. There’s a possibility that Prometheans are gone from the campaign, but I don’t think 343 would spend so much time and resources creating them just so they could be in one game, I’m relatively sure 343 will find a way to bring them back into the campaign.
I don’t understand all the hate towards the Prometheans? They were a fun enemy to fight and a welcome break from the Covenant who have been the same for 10y ears of Halo games. Even the Flood got boring.
The only way I will be happy with the Flood returning is if they came in a different form. A more pure form closely resembling the Precursor race they used to be.
Here’s hoping we start seeing alien races as allies against this wannabe reject Covenant.
