I know on the wavelength the Halo’s first fired on did not affect AI, but I also know the wavelength can be changed to target different neural pathways. Could the rings be fired to explicitly target AI, especially with the looming threat of the Created? Let me know.
Well this is a complex question. This has many layers that each need to be explained and answered carefully. By its self no the halo rings cannot be “reprogrammed” (to our knowledge) to target a different entity. If this was possible, then why didnt the forerunners just program the ring just to target the flood? Cortnana herself might be a victim to the halo rings if she truly did integrate herself with predecessor technology. However the other A.I she has in her ranks would be unaffected as they dont have a nervous system. The reason nobody found predecessor tech is because it was wiped out of existence when the halo rings fired. Unless Cortana and her A.I army somehow gave themselves actual neural systems then, no it would be impossible for them to perish if Cortana did decide to use the halo rings Although she might die as well. However this is just me speculating with bits a pieces of facts. If I am wrong in my answer, please feel free to correct anything that may seem out of place.
Shotgunspree 13 I think Cortana is now under the population that can be effected by the Array because she lives in the Domain, which is a Precursor and Forerunner neural world. It was almost completely destroyed during the firing of the Array, but some of it still survived in the heart of the Forerunner capital Maethrillian. Since Cortana needs the Domain to survive and not reach rampancy, her Created will also do the same and live there, and the Domain can be destroyed by Halo’s. So I do think it’s possible to kill those who reside in the Domain, but it will come at the expense of killing all other life in the galaxy.
Interesting thought… I had an ongoing theory that Cortana would eventually try to use the Halo’s to sterilize the galaxy so she could remake it in her own image… But I neglected to consider the fact that the Array destroyed Precursor artifacts when it first fired, as pointed out by the Librarian. Since the Domain is a Precursor construct, and Cortana’s “cure” for rampancy is through the Domain, it would completely ruin her plans if she fired the Array. I mean the Domain wasn’t completely destroyed obviously, but it was severely crippled during the first firing.

Well maybe your theory isn’t entirely wrong. It’s possible that Cortana doesn’t know that the Domain can be crippled by the Array so she could end up firing Halo and kill herself and the Created in the process.
The halo rings could not be programmed against AI because when the halo rings were fired at the end of the forerunner flood war it was targeted to everything that the flood could consume. As we saw in halo 3 and 4 the flood could also consume AI but some rampant AIs did survive like Mendicant Bias. So AI cannot be killed out by the halo rings. But their is a chance Cortana could, she is in the domain which is a precursor network and is technicly a living thing and since she is in the domain it can be cleared along with her

It’s possible, but if she tapped into the Domain and met with the Warden Eternal, I would assume he would be able to fill her in on the events. The Domain’s damage would certainly be obvious and she would want to know what caused it.
