So I was replaying through all the MCC campaigns because why not they are fantastic, and at the end of Halo 4 I noticed something… in the epilogue, the Didact says, “The reclamation… has already begun.” In Halo 5 when chief has the vision or whatever that was of Cortana, she tells him the reclamation is about to begin. The two lines sounded very familiar to me. This could just be nothing, and Halo 5 went off on a separate branch not entirely set up by Halo 4, or was Halo 4 the first foreshadowing of what will happen in Halo Infinite’s campaign. Halo 5 did seem to have a different story than originally planned, which could mean that Halo Infinite will try to get back on track with a story foreshadowed by Cortana and the Didact talking about the reclamation.
But how would the Didact come back? He died didn’t he? At the end of 4, chief planted a grenade in his side. The Didact didn’t necessarily die right in front of us, he fell into the swirling orange portal looking thing below the bridge. The game never told us what the swirling mass was, so if it IS a slipspace portal, the Didact could still be alive, and ordering Cortana to begin summoning the Guardians.
Imo, I could see 343 jumping on this possible story path, ONE because it could be reasonable if the pulse grenade only weakened him, causing him to fall into the portal, and TWO because it would give us an opposing leader controlling the lesser enemies we fight in game. Sure in Halo 5 we were fighting the Covenant remains and the Prometheans, but they didn’t have much of a leader. We killed off Jul Mdama in the first mission(Covenant supreme leader at the time). The rest of the game, they don’t have a leader (let me know if they did have a leader, I just don’t remember one).
Overall, I think it would be a great idea to show us how he survived, and have him controlling Cortana and other AIs… Plus we could get a fun boss fight out of it.
This is just an idea, made up by the connection of two phrases from different games. 343 might be going this way, they might not. Their story they made is probably already set in stone.
He’s a digitized essence now as per the events of Halo: Escalation. Suffice it to say, he did indeed fall into a portal and found himself on Installation 03 (which makes sense since that was the last place his ship had been). He then attempted to construct more Composers which he could sync with the Halo in order to expand its range (or at least that seems to be the implied plan). Chief and Blue Team stop him and in the resulting chaos is composed or digitized and vanishes to parts unknown.
So, yes, the Didact COULD return since 343 kept him alive in one fashion or another. How likely that is remains to be seen.
Legends say he took it in the eye.
Depends on 343 Industries. They originally wanted him to return in Halo 5 but they decided to write him off in Halo Escalation by being digitized/contained. The Halo series doesn’t really recycle main antagonist too much so it’s unlikely unless creative direction has another change of heart. For the most part, he is gone now, Warden Eternal controls his promethean army so his sway and influnece is gone unless 343 decides to write him back in. As for Jul’s Covenant, they’re done, Sali Nyon was considered worthy successor but I think they might shelve him for the Banished since there’s so much speculation of them appearing. Jul’s son, Dural now leads the Servants of Abiding Truth cult but I doubt Thel is paying as much attention to them with the Created at large.
They almost brought him back for Halo 5 so yeah i could see him coming back putting cortana in her place

Even then, I just found it interesting that the two had very similar lines. It would definitely satisfy me to fight the Didact once more in a more proper boss fight. Warden Eternal could have been a better enemy, but his fights never changed in 5 so he never really stuck in my mind as a leader, only a pawn.
As for the banished coming into Infinite, I think they might shelve a lot of enemies/enemy groups so that we aren’t overwhelmed… We’d be fighting (if they are in Infinite) the Flood, the Banished, possibly some Covenant stragglers depending on how 343 deals with them, the Created, and maybe even the Didact if they chose to. That’s quite a bit to keep track of.
