Could it be?

So here i am, musing away while at work and it hits me. Elites aren’t in MM, the covenant is shattered, the Brutes have driven themselves back into the stone age, and by 343i’s own words the covenant is only present in H4 to ease us into the new trilogy. So this leads me to wonder, if all that is true (everything being subject to change and what not). Could we be done seeing the covenant almost all together after halo 4? Don’t get me wrong i loved fighting them for hours and hours on end but after reach they seem a little stale, like there’s nothing new they can throw at us.

Also lets take into account, Bungie made the covenant, breathed life into them. 343 has spent the past 4-5 years breathing life into the promethians(sp, i see this as a major impass concerning the covenant. could it be the end of their era in the series?

Don’t you mean the Age of Doubt?

Maybe. It’s hard to answer or speculate on because we know so little of Halo 4’s story.

I wouldn’t say the covenant are gone for good, they just will never be the focus of a Halo game again. The covenant will always be apart of the Halo series but they won’t as prevalent in the series for sure.

I think that the Covenant will kind of turn into the flood; they won’t be in every mission, but they’ll still play an important role in the game. I think the Covenant will always be there.

Halo wouldn’t be Halo without the covenant.

personally i would like to see an alternative to the spartans in MM again, just nothing as sore thumb as the elites were. something around the same size and ability level.

I don’t see us ever being ridden of the Covenant.

Theres the whole point of them being the benchmark of Halo’s enemy but there’s also the point that they are a massive, massive sandbox element. Weapons, Enemy types, Maps etc. Now we have Covenant, Flood, Forerunners/ Prometheans, UNSC. 343i will just keep adding to the sandbox. It doesnt mean they will play as big role in said game but theres no way they will just completely get rid of them.

I dunno, I just have the feeling that they may be seeing a slow phasing out over halo 4 and 5

I hope not. Keeping the covenant in is a good way to provide more variety and make the campaign seem less repetitive.

Covenant having no part in a Halo game = what the -Yoink-

That would be like taking the peanut butter out of a peanut butter and jam sandwhich, and just having jam.

If the jam is good enough…

Are these guys even really “Covenant”? The Covenant refered to the, eh, Covenant between the Prophets and Elites. I’m thinking they’re calling these guys “Covenant” for simplicity, when in reality, it’s just a splinter faction of Elites in command of Grunts and Jackals.

Unless there’s a Prophet running them from behind the scenes.

I honestly hope they don’t disappear. It wouldn’t seem the same, but if they had something that could dull the pain that could be acceptable. As long as they give a good reason to not see the covenant again after re-introducing them.

and you’d be removing half of the PB&J sandwich. Just like how you’d be removing half the weapon sandbox if you took out the Covenant, their weapons and vehicles are too iconic to remove at this point and the future.

Jam sandwich, that’s preposterous.

Hopefully, we’ve fought the Covenant for over a decade, and we need change. The flood as comparison has not been present in as many games, not close to, and yet people are fed up ^^
Halo needs to change and evolve, Covenant as allies instead of enemies, Arbiter once again as wingman with Chief, not enemy. Marines and grunts VS evil etc.
I for once is fed up with fighting Covenant, they’re simple (bad AI/behaviour) and lacks big, interesting differences. It takes no skill or though to kill them, just plasma + HS is good enough for a majority. Even CoD has managed to change enemies, so should Halo. I hope for new and better enemies in Halo 7-9 too…

So jam sandwich is crazy, but people eat peanut butter sandwiches all the time.

I believe we’re not fighting the Covenant, but instead fighting the Abiding Truth (which is the Covenant, but not; not going specific into them)

anyways, the fact that Spartan Ops takes place 6 months after the end of Halo 4’s Campaign, and we’re still fighting the Covenant/Abiding Truth. I don’t think they’re going anywhere any time soon.

I’d much rather have the Flood come back though. It’s been 5 years since we’ve fought them (if you don’t count Wars). I personally miss them

Than make them better. They aren’t the main enemy anymore so I don’t see the problem having the Covenant as a secondary antagonist.

I miss em to, I need to see them again, new forms maybe? And so on, cut down on the fcovies,up on the forerunners, up on the flood, I wouldnt mind rampant sentinels.
