Could Infinite be the last traditional release?

So, we all know that the title for the next Halo title is Halo Infinite. I find the title Infinite interesting. I have a theory of what Halo Infinite could end up being. I think Halo Infinite could end up being the final traditional Halo release, and all future Halo content, both Campaign and Multiplayer releases will be on Halo Infinite. So essentially, Halo Infinite would end up being a service game/hub for all future Halo content, thus why they’ve named it Halo Infinite. Of course, there’ve been other games with the word infinite in the title and they weren’t service games/hub for future content. However, I could see Microsoft possibly wanting it to go in this direction. What do you think, could this end up being the case?

I think its just 343 just steering away from numbered titles

That sounds awfully limiting.

Curious, but what do you thinks limits it?

Eh probably not I’m sure Infinite is just for something related to the story like ODST, Reach, or even Guardians. Plus that would destroy the hype of waiting for a new Halo imo.

I wouldnt really like the direction of just adding content to a then old game which would make it pretty huge in filesize and there could be performance issues if everything opens up simultaneously.

Such surely works for MMORPGs on PC (to some degree, but i still dont like such methods personally given sometimes the original experience wont be available to newcomers, ever) but I really wouldnt like to see such with Halo. Its not really the style of franchise for that.

I think that’s actually possible but I also think that wouldn’t work the greatest. Halo 5 has been doing something in the same ballpark as that for a few years now and the game has become huge. I had to delete it, because I play other games, including the giant MCC. Could’ve gotten a hard drive but I wasn’t going to do that just to keep one of the more mediocre Halos on the hard drive. So if they’ve got a way to make Infinite more of a revolving door of content they could make it last forever without getting too huge but the problem them becomes constant support and like Destiny, players who come after content shifts have missed quite a lot of, well, content. But I wouldn’t be against it if they were to state upfront that was the plan. Especially if it was free with only new campaigns costing anything every so often. But I doubt they are thinking that far forward yet. People still like to buy discs, and it would kill major buildups to each new story component, because there’s no midnight release of a physical copy for people to all get psyched up about. Just a time when the marketplace lets you download it.

I don’t think that’s a good idea. We have a collection that doesn’t work and had to run basically 6 games worth of code just to function. While it’s interesting, I think the best thing to do is to do seperate releases and build those, rather than adding new games to a platform that could break it. Imagine the frustration of people trying to play a new game and when they add something new, it crashes the platform. Seperate releases allows you to add features to an isolated experience rather than a unified platform. Plus from a business standpoint, it doesn’t make sense to not do seperate releases.

Do you think games could be heading more towards a service game?

I would like to figure out what is behind the choice of “Infinite” as a name.

It could involve something in the plot, but it could end up being like I theorize, that’s it’s a service game.

Well, it could be related to (and I hope this isn’t the case) alternate realities or timelines. Like Bioshock Infinite, another sci fi linear FPS with “infinite” in the title that didn’t become a live service game.

It could also be related to infinite versions of Cortana (again, hope not). It could be a nod to the effects of the Domain on AI (Cortana said it makes them essentially immortal). It could also be a reference to some potential story element, like a plan Cortana has to use the Halos or other tech to solidify her control over the galaxy forever.

now that I think is more likely

I…don’t really want that to be the case. Traditional releases are perfectly fine.

i don’t think infinite is saying much and it will be a normal game release. 343 said that they want to move away from numberd titels, so they “have to” come up with a “cool” name. (ironicly i think infinite is a completly cliche name and to me it’s more pseudo cool, like teens who want to come off as being very over the top cool)

could also mean that you can’t go past infinite with numbering, but still a cliche titel

I also believe that it’s just a good way to get away from numbered titles.

Exactly mate

I agree. They said a while ago that they wanted to get away from the numbered titles and I don’t blame them. Halo 6 just sounds weird. Imagine if it was actually Halo 6: Infinite. It just doesn’t roll off the tongue as smoothly as Halo Infinite.
