Interestingly, on the Xbox site, Halo Infinite is shown to be Play Anywhere. This could just be a little mix-up, and the game WILL be Play Anywhere. The game was announced to be for Xbox One and Windows 10. However, there are those who are wondering if it will be on Xbox ‘Scarlett’, and possibly be part of Play Anywhere as well. People like to use this to say that Infinite will not be on ‘Scarlett’. However, that’s not what he said, he said the game will be on Xbox One and Windows 10. He can’t say anything about Xbox ‘Scarlett’, as Microsoft hasn’t formally announced it themselves yet. Do you think that Infinite will launch on on all platforms, and thus we will have Play Anywhere on all of them, including ‘Scarlett’, but not having that platform have an advantage over Xbox One?
When you say there are those wondering if it will be on Scarlett, you mean you, right?
Whether Scarlett will be its own family of devices or further upgrades of the Xbox One Family is unknown. It’s too early to speculate, but based on what Microsoft has said they want to do with the Xbox consoles, it stands to reason that Scarlett will be an extension of the One family, or at the very least be compatible with One games. If it ends up that Infinite is playable on this Scarlett, I’m sure steps will be taken to ensure that the playing field is level no matter what device people choose to play on.

Very true, it’s still way too early to know. However, if I had to guess, it’s gonna be the next-generation Xbox, as by 2020 it’ll have been 7 years since the Xbox One launched. Will be so cool to have the community across all these platforms. Was cool to see Microsoft and Nintendo partnered up for cross-platform.

I must have missed it. I didn’t see that anywhere on the link.
I too doubt that Project Scarlet will be another “One” frankly, neither do I hope that’s the case. I want the new games to use the full potential of next gen hardware without having to be restricted by previous incarnations.
I mean, why do we need a better CPU for instance when the only difference to six plus years old games is just frame rate? Which is important too, okay. And we know Scarlet will be focused on delivering exactly that as well. However, I hope devs will have full control over the potential of the new machine and deliver better AIs, more complex routines, larger world, more objects and props of different kinds in the map, better physics, mutable surroundings and so on. In other words: I want to see things that the Xone X can’t handle!
Better looking games are always nice, but at end of the day that’s the least important aspect of a game, at least for me. Not to mention I also doubt Sony would do something like that either.

Back to topic, for the rest I agree with Chimera30. First and foremost in the case of Hi it really doesn’t matter, does it? It’s confirmed to be a fully flashed out Xone game already, also Spencer claimed in more than one occasion that retro-compatibility is a main focus for the company. Knowing this imho Hi will run on scarlet as well, I’m certain!

My bad, typo, I meant it doesn’t show that.
I think it will be play anywhere, I don’t see why not. Also there’s the possibility Scarlett isn’t a traditional next gen console but the next Xbox One iteration.

Probably unlikely, as it’ll be 7 years since the Xbox One released in 2020 and with the PS5 right on their tail.
Gamespot asked Microsoft in July and they basically said “We don’t know.” Those smart enough to read through the lines are going to come to the same conclusion as everybody else—Microsoft are holding out on Halo because they think that people will go out of their way to buy Infinite. This may have been true in 2007, before Bungie and 343 collectively did a number on the series’ reputation, but in 2018–2020 the world isn’t exactly champing at the bit for another 343 adventure. Either way it doesn’t bode well for Play Anywhere, which likely isn’t going to make it into the next generation, and certainly not past Phil Spencer’s reign.

I don’t see why that would be the case. How did you get to this conclusion in first place? Personally I’ve the exact opposite feeling frankly. For instance, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a streaming version of XPA for phones and tablets in three to four years or so!
Considering MS statements about techs future lately, the Xbox team trying to push more and more for online services, the introduction of a subscription based based platform fax simile to a “gaming Netflix” and considering how streaming gaming is slowly but steadily becoming an available option, I would say MS will double down on XPA. Sure, the MS Store on Win10 is an utter failure and will probably never compete with Steam, but for MS selling games on there still means getting more money trough software without having to build the hardware around. I’m also sure that the platform will grow more and more thanks to games like Gears Tactics, AoE4 and Hi! Not to mention that Play Anywhere is even a selling point for Xbox seeing how the competition doesn’t have anything similar for the moment.
Also technically speaking we’re already are past Spencer’s Xbox era since he got promoted to a higher position. This is basically a “second Spencer era” if I may say so. As such I would think the status quo won’t change for a while. And even if Phil leaves the company both Matt Booty and MS CEO Nadella (hope I didn’t bastardized his name!^^’) from what I can tell have a very similar perspective towards gaming and tech overall. Nadella is certainly staying for a loooong time!
Also I don’t see Matt leaving for at least the first half of the Scarlet era and therefore surely continuing to promote the Xbox brand as a service over just a console. Well, he’ll stay if Xbox doesn’t pull another “always online, TV, sport, sport, TV” presentation that is!
Just a hunch.
