From what we’ve heard, it has the exploration of Halo: CE, the two-sided gameplay of Halo 2, the epicness of Halo 3, the emotion of Halo 4, and overall the story seems to be amazing. What do you guys think?
That’s what I’m hoping for.
It certainly has the potential, for all the things you point out. I think the new abilities, and the new weapon sandbox, all could factor in as well.
And Blue Team. Duh.
Itll be the best. No doubt
I think it might.
H3 and H4 are my favorite campaigns. Especially since H3 had brutes, scarabs, and English talking enemies with a lot of humor. If H5 is somehow better than those two campaigns then I will be VERY impressed. H2 was pretty dang good too.
It will no doubt be the most fun to play after including republic commando systems but hopefully the story will be great, they always are though.
It very well could be
Having played through all the campaigns in MCC i have to say the quality of story telling in Halo 4 is outstanding and feel that 5 will only get better. 343 have brought something very special to the table and although Bungie are fantastic i think Halo 5 can be the best yet.
Yes it is possible.
Any game with a campaign has the potential to be best of their franchise. But with everything 343i have layered in the EU, and focused on ensuring that it’s all intertwined, Halo 5 on paper at least has the potential to be the best story. Campaigns are more than just story and 343i seem to be making some bold choices which, if they work, I think could change Halo campaigns going forwards.
Swapping perspectives isn’t new, we had it in Halo 2, but the perspectives seemed a bit too separate for me; Chief was dealing with his stuff and Arbiter his, and changing from one to the other in the way they did didn’t help that. It was (probably inevitably) dropped in Halo 3. This time the 2 perspectives seem to be much more connected; it looks like we’re going to see Chiefs actions and decisions, then play the aftermath/consequences of those decisions through Locke’s eyes.
Then there’s the squad mechanics. We’ve had a bit of that in ODST and Reach, but we’ve never been able to give commands or actually take control of them in co-op; and the game hasn’t really been built on squad mechanics.
If these 2 major factors work and the story delivers, this could easily be the best campaign but further than that, could set the template for future Halo releases.
It “could” in theory but we won’t know until October 27th. I honestly hope it is the best.
TBH, I don’t see how it couldn’t be. IMO, Bungie wasn’t/isn’t very good at story-telling. With H4 being 343i’s first crack at Halo, I can only surmise H5 will be on par or better than H4 in terms of story.
I just hope my high hopes don’t crash and burn Oct 27th.
It definitely has the potential to be the best. As the OP mentioned, seems like Halo 5 is fusing all of the best elements from the previous games with exploration, emotion, and an epic scale.
It certainly has the potential. All the elements seem to be there.
- Introduction of Blue Team and introduction of other EU elements.
- Return of Edward Buck and introduction of Osiris, an awesome new team of Spartan IVs.
- An emphasis on cooperative play and squad-based gameplay.
- Commands.
- The campaign has multiple perspectives, like Halo 2 and Halo 3: ODST.
- The same seems to have an awesome new sandbox.
- Some of the levels have some awesome skyboxes and vistas.
- New ways of exploring and interacting with the level through Spartan Abilities. This helps with easter eggs.
- The campaign has been described as larger and less linear than those who have played the game (e.g. Greenskull).
- 343 Industries have a great track record for storytelling and connecting the universe together.
These are things that make for a great campaign. The only major disappointment we’ve made so far is the loss of split-screen. But if the campaign goes beyond what the previous games did in depth and scope, it may be a fair trade off

Yeah it was a little jarring when I played 1-3 in succession (each fantastic in their own right) and then moved to 4 where I noticed a significant shift in story depth. It was much easier to see when I played it alongside the previous games. I’m excited to see what 343 does with Halo 5.
Yes
It better be…
The potential is surely there.
Would have said the emotion of Reach, rather than 4, but yeah, that should be it!
H5 looks to be a Campaign of epic proportions, especially Kelly’s butt.
