Could Halo 5 have benefited from a Prologue?

After reading a fair amount of comments about the campaign, one of the primary criticisms was that the story could have provided more initial background to the state of the universe and the characters you were set to play in the campaign. Many users complained that the characters lacked depth, inconsistent motivation, the story lacked a decent narrative, and generally did not know what was happening with the new characters. I realize how this can be confusing for those who do not keep up with the expanded universe lore through the books, comics, etc. and mainly engage with the Halo story through the games.

My question is basically do you think Halo 5 could have benefited from a prologue?

A refresher of sorts similar to this video uploaded by the Xbox youtube account: Halo 5: Live - State of the Universe - YouTube (anyone want to add a lazy link). A short (skippable) introduction played before the main game actually started, giving perspective on the key characters and current political situations present, I believe would have helped immensely.

I am curious to hear your thoughts.

I would have made Spartan Ops, and the epiosdes would have been Blue teams story from Reach, and how they came together again after the events of Halo 4.

That surely would have been one direction they could have gone, but I think with the release of the Fall of Reach animated story they wouldn’t have done that since it would have been quite repetitive.

They were really pushing their Halo Channel Videos. A quick and dirty update on the lore is right there for anyone genuinely curious about what’s going on. They are great vids, I’ve watched them all and I already knew the information. There is no excuse for people to “not know” the state of the universe when it’s easily accessible with the Halo Channel.

Yes. It would have to be a pretty long prologue, too, because it literally makes no sense if you only follow the games. Like me.
And I hear there are even people who follow the lore and extended fiction that also were confused. Lol.

True, Buest with the lack of Blue team missions, I would rather play than watch another mini series, but thats just me, at least we get something

I definitely agree, all the information is readily available; however, the general person can be lazy and may not want to go through the Halo Channel to find that information. Not saying they have no interest or do not want to access it, just that some people want to pop the game in and be somewhat caught up with what has happened since the last game came out.

Yes, it seriously needed some prequel content to let people learn who the hell people were. We should’ve learned some brief background on Osiris and Blue Team so we can form connections to them. And I don’t mean some episodic video series, I mean a mission or two dedicated to past exploits before they all teamed up.

343 seriously need to add this in. I know they said no single player DLC but a freaking cutscene can make all the damn difference.

This would have been the simplest way. I mean they had this video, they could have easily put it as the prologue.

True enough, the videos are all there on the Halo Channel, but new players may not know that it exists.

I’d have to say that the campaign, which I did enjoy, would have benefited from a prologue of some description - not entirely sure if a CGI prologue sequence or something akin to Spartan Ops would have been the best option.
