could halo 4 come out on 360 and next gen console

I know it seems far-fetched, considering they have said it will be 360 only, but it makes sense in a way. If they do release it at the end of 2012 then they probably wouldn’t put out a console for another couple of years. I mean, if it was to come out a year later, they may as well hang on to Halo 4, it would cripple the next console if their biggest franchise was on a previous console, even with backwards compatibility people would want games that make the most of the new hardware, so halo 4 would not drum up the same amount oh hardware sales it normally would. This generation has gone on long enough, and with the Wii-U launching at the end of the year, their is no no doubt that Microsoft and Sony are finishing up their new consoles, considering the current gen is now really outdated hardware wise.

It would also explain the lack of information. I have no doubt if they did release it on the next gen console it would also be released for the 360 too, to try to imitate Sony’s strategy for keeping the PS2 alive for a while after the PS3. But 343 would not like to show clips or screenshot’s of the inferior version, they would want to save things like that until they could show off the game in it’s best state (remember battlefield advertised with very little 360 footage, mostly PC with a little PS3) They want to save all this information for the big reveal, imagine how big it would be for Microsoft, revealing a new halo game on a new console, it would launch the hype into overdrive. Halo 4 as a lunch title would guarantee a strong launch for this new system. If they were to announce this, they would probably want to do it in the first quarter, than build up hype through the summer and the fall.

So what do you think, a release on both consoles, to maximize sales revenue, guaranteeing a successful launch for the new console, and guaranteeing a life for the 360, it would be a hugely profitable move from Microsoft. And remember how 343 flat out denied Halo CEA. I may be completely wrong, but i live in hope.

firstly, they have not said that Halo 4 would be 360 only, they have only said that Halo 4 will be on the 360.

As for the new xbox, it’s coming in the time range of the next 10-22 months. My money is on November 2013, but still have hope for Nov. 2012.

Microsoft stated back in 07-08 that they were looking into “forward compatibility” which is basically the way games work on pc’s. The better the hardware you have, the better the game looks/performs. If Microsoft has continued with “forward compatibility,” it would be like halo 4 running on low/med settings on hte 360 and ultra on the next box. I think that would drum up some excitement. Halo 4, 1080p, 30-60fps, AA or FXAA? Yes please!

From my point of view, they should hold off another year on releasing Halo 4 even though 2012 is going to be worst year exclusive game wise this gen for the xbox 360…Microsoft over saturated the market with Halo since 09…give the series a one year break…let more negativity grow about the CoD franchise…strike when that market is on the downturn…

Strike with a dual release of Halo 4 both for the next box and 360 and watch the profits roll in…

would make sense, bungie launched their first halo with the xbox 343 launching their first halo with whatever the next xbox is would be nice to have a fresh console for a fresh halo too, although they could do this with a halo 2 anniversary or whatever the next halo game will be

Even if the next gen comes out in Halo 4’s life cycle, then it will still get attention, remember Halo 2, it was still a very popular game even 2 years into the 360’s life span.

Yeah as much as I would like a new system at some point but it really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense from a finacial point. They’ve sold a lot of xboxes in the past year or so to introduce a new system and possibly confuse consumers and alienate existing owners with a new one. I read a article on IGN and the anylist that they consulted said it would be more likely a updated 360 versus a new system. Added features blah blah blah. I would dig a Blu-ray player integration finally. But thats why I have a ps3. I know I’ll burst into flames for that ommission on a xbox forum.

I just recently bought a Ps3 and I have to say the quality trumps xbox by a long shot, but at the same time the system is very confusing, and there are way too many updates for my taste.

Buy all your multiplayer games for xbox, by all your story for ps3. Exclusives are obvious.

the thing is, the people that barely are buying 360’s in the last few years this late into the generation, I doubt Microsoft would be aiming for their money. I think Microsoft is smart enough to realize that the people that would line up outside of bestbuy on launch day of their xbox are actual gamers, not the casual kinect audience.

The launch of a new console more likely then not, assuming that Microsoft understands the difference between actual gamers and the casual kinect crowd which is a bit questionable these days lol, will be directed towards us gamers that camped out for xbox 360 back in 2005 in the U.S. or it’s respective launch date in other parts of the world.

Yeah I totally agree with you that the ps3 dashboard is confusing and the updates, for game updates take forever compared to the xbox updates for games. Xbox needs to push for more exclusives to their console because sony is winning in that department. And I’m not a ps3 fan boy, its just true they have more exclusive titles. What does Xbox have now Halo, Gears of war and Forza? They did with Mass effect but that went multiplatform. But I agree online= Xbox. Story games(not all)=Ps3

You know, I was just thinking about the new Xbox and thought that it shouldn’t come out as early as 2012 or 2013, but it should be held until 2014 or so. But not for nothing, but to get higher resolution. As when I was thinking about it, I thought that 1080p HD is cool and all, but why couldn’t we wait a couple years and get 1440p WQHD resolution? Or even better, WQSXGA 3200x2048 resolution.

This idea struck me as I have been thinking getting a new TV for a while as I have an acient 720p plasma TV that was one of the earlier HDTVs. I started looking for the highest resolutions available and realized that why should I waste my money on a full HD TV when I can just wait few years and get a Quad HD TV for considerable price.

So, playing Halo 4 with 1080p60 would be cool, but playing Halo 5 2048p60 would be even cooler, wouldn’t it? That’s why, if there is a chance for a better resolution, I’d rather wait the Xboxfusion (which I have heard to be the console’s name at this moment in development) for extra two or three years if there is a chance for a better resolution. But rather not any further than the release of Halo 5 as in my honest opinion, that would make a hell of a launch for the Xboxfusion and Halo 5.

I don’t agree, because then you’re screwing PC gamers. Also, Multi platform games rake in more money than exclusives, plus a game can still look good on the newer consoles, unlike on the Xbox, which has reached the end of it’s life. All of these Xbox or PS3 Exclusives are annoying, but most likely those games are published through some one who Microsoft or Sony has money in.

I see where you’re all going with this, but i feel that launching a new console with a new halo trilogy makes sense. The 360 launched faster than the Ps3 before, and it helped massively. Why get a more expensive console when you can have the cheaper one with the more expansive library. I feel that having a halo launch game with the next gen console would be too big a trick to miss, and they can’t really wait till late 2015 to release another console. i also feel that the lack of exclusives for the 360 of late has something to do with a new console, pouring money into that. So far it seems that the next handhold gen is repeating itself, with the 3ds so far trouncing the vita in sales, if the next gen console launched first with a halo game, the Xbox would be sure to take a lead once again. It may be in Microsoft’s interest to come out with a new console too, in the week 26th of December to January first the PS3 outsold the 360 27:1, the problem is the market is saturated with 360’s, meaning that their sales are declining rapidly. With the PS3 having free internet, and being cheaper now it’s starting to rival the 360, time for a new console maybe?

I was just making a statement about exclusives because some folks make purchases by that sort of thing and there have been gripes about exclusives on xbox. I wish it didn’t happen either. Its is about who puts money in whos pocket with developers. I didn’t buy a ps3 to play certain games it was a xmas gift few years back. I mainly use mine for the blu-ray. I’ve never been a PC gamer but I feel bad for them because they do get screwed a lot of times, plus they have to wait for some games because they don’t come out at the same time as console games do. I wish I played the first two Halos on PC because I heard they had added features the console didn’t.

You mean like how The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was released on both the Nintendo Gamecube and the Nintendo Wii?

I don’t really like that idea. I think wait for a different title-release game that isn’t Halo to be the one to boost the sales of the next-gen console. Give 343 Industries a few months of experience with the new console.

Remember the hype Halo 3 got because it was on the Xbox 360? Tee Hee…

the problem is that consoles are limited by wattage/size/heat.

you would need pretty beefy hardware even in 2014 for a console to hit those resolutions.

The other problem is devs will always sacrifice resolution/frame rate in order to get the best possible graphics.

I would be content if the majority of games ran at 1080p 60 fps, with good AA and awesome textures and more importantly, some awesome AI.

If the next gen xbox reach Samaritan Demo levels, that alone would be pretty -Yoinking!- awesome.

seeing as 343i is a part of Microsoft, they have probably had target boxes or alpha system developer kits since early to mid last year lol.

343i will definatley get an early start as far as releasing one of the first xbox games seing as they’re part of microsoft ad have better connections with them unlike bungie. Halo is a powerful weapon in the console gaming world, right now the gun is coming out of the holster but it won’t shoot till the next gen xbox comes out. And Halo 4 won’t be part of the shooting it will bemore of the taking out part.

Halo 2 came out in 2004, the 360 came out in 2005, need i say more?

I doubt it. I’d think a brand new xbox might mean they may have to entirely re-code it so it works with the new xbox. Even if it was released on both, do you really think that many are going to buy it on the next xbox? They’d have to buy a brand new console and Halo 4 to be able to play it. Much cheaper to just get it on the 360.

should I point out that Halo 2 played perfectly fine on xbox 360. And halo 4 should be compatible with both systems but the game should be made to the best it can be for the new console and have comparability settings for the 360.
ex: better graphics and performance on xbox 3 and have a lower setting if u play it on 360.

also i dont want them to get rid of Halo 4 MM if MS dicides to shut off servers again like XO. but i hope they keep them running longer then XO did so it will seem like a huge milestone for X360 accomplished. but i hope they never do. i miss XO Halo 2 MM and CG. good times good times, brings tears to my eyes :_)
