Halo 5 Guardians Beta is opening right after Christmas 2014 and it makes me wonder if 343 could be trying to avoid the fall and get H5G out without a lot of competitors games getting in the way.
Halo 5: Guardians is scheduled for the Fall.
The beta is out in December because 343i wants to have tons of time to be able to really analyze and implement the feedback and data gathered. Usually betas don’t leave a lot of time to actually do a lot of improvements, but this time it will.
343i specifically stated that it would release on the fall, which also happens to the ideal season for releasing video games. I don’t imagine that is a statistic that will change.

This.
Hopefully it starts a trend.

Which also means we probably won’t see much from the endproduct.
When the game comes out almost a whole year later, there can’t be much content in the BETA. 1 arena map 4vs4. I guess that’ll be all. (no complain)
OP, you’re looking at this in completely the wrong way. Halo is not a small IP desperately trying to avoid the big bad major releases, it’s the big release everybody else doesn’t want to tangle with. Halo is the one who knocks.
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Which is a really fantastic move by 343I. This could potentially be the best multiplayer yet. I just hope that non-arena gametypes and custom games have some other features to satisfy fans of some of the features hated by so many…

That certainly wasn’t the case with Halo 4’s multiplayer, not at all. Instead, Halo 4 answered the door.
Hopefully, Halo 5 won’t just knock. Halo 5 better smash that door into splinters.
