The addition of Forge in Halo 5 is great. And specially what people can do with this version of Forge is basically limitless. However, could they have made it anymore alien from the previous Forges of Halo 4 and H2A? I mean, the monitor movement is different, the drag and drop is gone, etc. That’s what was great about Forge, it was easy to learn, easy to build. And here 343i go about not only changing it but completely redoing everything. What’s wrong with developers who have a good thing going, and instead of adding in more and modifying and improving and perfecting, they feel the need to completely change everything and start from scratch. I mean there are even FORUM GUIDES how to Forge. It’s more complicated than anything previous and it’s completely off-putting for me and others. Hopefully they update it to be a bit more complicated to get in and just Forge. I can make great things in Reach, Halo 4 and MCC. I think one of my maps was in rotation in Halo 4’s BTB at one point. But Halo 5 I’m just bewildered and confused.
It’s a learning process for sure, but I’m honestly above and beyond better at using Halo 5’s controls than compared to any of the classic Forge controls.
It was easier when fonge first came out, i got used to it quick but now its very complex. its not difficult to master though with time.
It’s complicated and complex so that people can build complicated and complex games
with great possibilities comes great learning curves
Agreed. The main reason I don’t bother with Forge in Halo is that the learning curve is too steep… and what you take into account that the game built around it is mediocre at best, it’s really hard to get into it.
It’d be nice if they could add classic controls to Forge.
We wanted a good forge and we got an amazing forge. Yeah, let’s not go backwards please.
As someone who spends over 90% of my Halo time in Forge, I hope Forge evolves and adds more complexity next time around. In some aspects it still feels very limited, however that being said, within the last year Forge has developed a great deal and with every update we come closer to making Dev quality maps.
Just like anything in life, if you want results you have to put effort into it and keep at it.

Oh no, I’m not saying we need to go backwards. If they reworked some of the controls a bit to be more like classic forge, I think it’d be easier for people to pick up and learn. I understand how amazing this version is in terms of its limitations (or lack thereof) compared to previous versions. I just don’t have the time to sit down and learn all these new controls for something that was second nature to me.
What if 343 saw and trolled us here and updated Forge on April 1st to display Sangheili text or Webdings…
There’s a huge learning curve with Halo 5’s Forge. But once you curb the difficulty, you can make some beautiful creations. Hopefully I can recreate maps from my Counter-Strike days.
> COULD FORGE BE ANYMORE COMPLICATED AND ALIEN?
Yeah, it could have been labelled entirely in Sangheili, set up for dog paws, and designed only for use with the original Xbox’s fat controller.

yes, maby there could be a “primitive” mode but they must not go back to the way it was.
Agreed. I haven’t forged at all in this game despite being an avid forger in previous games hecause it requires me to unlearn years of muscle memory.
Heh, funny thing; the massive changes of the toolset interface actually remind me quite a bit about my time in 3D modeling, where I’ve had to learn and unlearn a ton of differing control schemes over and over, and how THAT IS THE NORM. 3DS Max, Maya, Blender, etc. all require that phase of unlearning and relearning every couple of versions or so. It is a pain.

I understand that this forge is very alien compared to other forged but it is for the best. I loved the old forge and spent hours in it but I will not lie when I say this forge is far better. And although it is more complex it is not hard to pick up. It is harder now because of all that is in it but still not impossible. My friend just got the game and I taught him how to make maps in only around 30 minutes. More complex features require experimentation and can’t be easily explained but they can be learned. This forge is at the moment near perfect as far as I and many others are concerned. It has evolved from a simple map editor into a full out map creator.
I do like this forge but wish we had a super large canvas like forge world in this game… that being said i’m not a fan of how complex it is and how, atleast for me, you have to leave the game and go online to find tutorials on how to do anything in the forge.

True but at the same time I would like to just mess around too, and it is kinda hard with the current setup.
As ability goes up, it seems like complexity follows
Just spend more time with it. It took me about 4 hours to get comfortable with the controls and imo I love all the changes they made. Everything is much more convenient.
