It wasn’t the ring activation she was preventing. Cortana was going to detonate In Amber Clad’s reactor to prevent the Prophet of Truth from taking High Charity to Earth. Much like with the Pillar of Autumn in Halo: Combat Evolved, she more than likely would have set a remote countdown and tell the Chief to “yank her” so they could both escape together.

Actually, looking back, she also says that she doesn’t want to risk triggering a remote detonation (my mistake in the previous post of mine), however it does beg the question as to why she couldn’t split herself. She had done it in First Strike which takes place before Halo 2 when the Master Chief and Blue Team boarded a Covenant docking station, so why not then on High Charity?
That’s right and it was the chief mistake to leave her behind, there are protocols to not leave an AI in enemy hands.
