“Engagement Optimized Matchmaking” is usually done by matching you with i mix of higher and lower ranked players, i actually get the feeling they are MOMM by giving you a mix of good and bad connections to the game, as my kd usually matches the same pattern as my good and bad connections to games, 1 game will be 18ping, next will be 200, it seems to always give a good connection just as im reaching the end of my limit with bad connections
I think EU is under populated so we get sent to NA servers and is almost playable. I would prefer a 30 sec wait time instead of 0 sec to NA servers
conspiracy theories are almost always complete garbage because they make no sense.
Yeah 343i are intentionally creating lag, desync, poor matches, etc. and hurting their profits for “reasons”
It’s a server problem.
Honestly just taking them down and performing maintenance would probably help in a big way, might even temporarily fix the BTB problem too. I don’t know why they haven’t tried this yet.
I don’t think it’s intentional. Where I’m at I get 30ms or less most the time, with the highest I’ve seen at 70ms. When I was at my boyfriend’s during winter break though I got over 200ms sometimes with heavy packet loss. If 343 was doing it intentionally I should experience those bad matchups where I live too, not just out of area.
No, take your foil hat off.
What kind of wondrous maintenance do you propose? Defragementing Hard Drives, Installing Patches or just a Reboot? Cause that’s whats typically meant by server maintenance.
Given that all this is hosted in the Cloud (most specifically on Microsoft Azure) it’s basically guaranteed to be Virtual Machines and most likely Container based. In case of containers basically the whole “server” gets recreated whenever a new version is deployed. And even with VMs they typically build new images nowadays, deploy them onto new hosts and take the old ones down so you have almost no downtime. Other games also have their online-portion hosted in Azure and work fine.
BTB has server issues but it’s an issue with the code that 343i runs on those servers - not the servers themselves. Might have something to do with the higher number of instances compared to their internal test net which has to support far fewer players (and where they seem to have trouble recreating the issue).
As for high ping - given that you can block being put in high-ping games by doing geo-blocking: it’s not the servers being on slow connections either - it’s again 343i’s Matchmaking code that matches you with people from another region, so either the others or you will encounter high ping as all data packets need to travel halfway around the world.
