Cosmetics Toggle Poll

As the topic says, I’m simply curious if you are in favor of having a toggle for cosmetics (You can add in the comments if you’d prefer to toggle armor fx, kill fx, or non-canon armors.

  • In favor of cosmetic toggles
  • Opposed to cosmetic toggles

Let’s stop with the toggles please.

They gave them to MCC to preserve the ‘legacy’ experience.

Halo Infinite is new, and we should be prepared to see it all.

IMO, we should be prepared to see the every corner of the Halo universe in all its glory.

Things from outside of the Halo universe? People can play with them on their own but if I have to see them I’m out.

There’s nothing wrong with more options if enough people would like it - it doesn’t really affect you if you don’t want to use it.

It takes dev time away from important things, so it kinda does affect everyone, even if they don’t use it.

Right, just like making non-canon cosmetics and whatnot takes dev time away from real Halo content. There are a dozen options of games for those kind of things, and only one Halo series.

Grim Brother One or Haruspis would probably like a word about treating those things as ‘non-cannon’.
Anyway, that dev time earns them money.
Dev time spent on toggles earns $0 and takes away from bug fixes and feature development.

I’m indifferent to their opinions.

Dev time spent on toggles would get them my battle pass money lol. Thinking in terms of short term profit vs the long term loyalty of Halo fans is why this game is such a joke.

Flame FX, etc., are surely non-canon. As are cat ears. As I said, if microsoft wants money for cat ears they should sell them in another game.

All that aside.

How would you even create such a toggle?

Where do you draw the line?

I’m sure if you tried to include certain items from the toggle, but exclude others, you’d have people arguing just as much.

To me, IF a toggle were ever going to happen it would need to be all or nothing.
Default spartans only if toggled.

And what is “every corner of the Halo universe” to you? And what is “outside the Halo universe”, whatever new comes from Infinite is now in the universe. You’re just picking what you want to see and what you don’t.

Same as it doesn’t effect you if you don’t want to use any new armor, same with seeing it. So why do you need a toggle?

It’s simple. Canon = in. Non canon = out.

Cat ears? Naw.

Cyber punk stuff? Naw.

Halo Reach stuff? Yes.

I think the answer to this is fairly obvious. Cat ears, holographic mowhawks, etc, clearly do not fit into the military science fiction world of Halo.

Spartans modify their armor all the time. Who’s to say they wouldn’t add a visor effect thing (if it served a purpose)?

Again, where do we really draw the line? What about coatings? Many coatings that aren’t ‘neon’ probably still wouldn’t exist ‘irl’ - but many people consider ‘blue’ or ‘orange’ to be Cannon.

I don’t think you’re the right person to define what Cannon is or isn’t.
Leave that to the folks that actually work on the game, the people you seemed so quick to dismiss.

Do you really feel that they are designing things based on whether or not they work in the game/universe? Or just whatever they think will be trendy with the people who are willing to spend money on cosmetics?

That’s not the point.

The point is that it’s not so cut and dry - and the argument won’t end by adding a toggle, because people will just argue for what should or shouldn’t get included in the toggle.

As you can see by your poll, the community isn’t of one mind on this anyway.

Very true, adding this kind of content is very very decisive and alienates a significant portion of the community. From my perspective, if you put out content and 50% of people love it but 50% of people absolutely hate it and leave the game because of it, then that’s bad content for the community. There is so much content they could be creating that would be better received by the community as a whole.

I’m arguing this point because I absolutely love the Halo universe. A decade ago I would pour over every single tiny update, video, book. In Reach and 3 they experimented with a bit of goofy stuff like the pestilence armor effect, all of which were very difficult to obtain. I didn’t really like it then myself (although I did think Hayabusa was cool in 3.)

Now, 15 years later, we’ve got cat ears in Halo and it’s just souring my interest in the universe as it is diluted by popular culture. Just my opinion, thank you for sharing yours in a respectful way!

That’s a totally fine opinion to have, and many others share it.
I just simply believe that a toggle creates more problems than it solves, and is a waste of time.

I wasn’t really trying to be in favor of or against the cosmetics themselves, just the idea of a toggle.

If you only kept in-universe stuff in with the toggle active, I think you’d have to just disable armor effects as a whole, including the iconic things like the flaming head. That’s a pretty massive censorship.

No. Toggles only make sense in MCC as they preserve the original artistic visions of the games. Whether you like Yoroi or not, it’s supposed to be there.
