Well everybody here is talking about it. Not just those for the toggle. I may have complained only because it seems so feeble to me. When there are so many other way more important things they should be focusing on (directly funded by selling cosmetics). So while it is very silly, it’s also very serious.
If you think that Halo is overall all about simulating spartans play-fighting, then maybe that is where our disagreement lies.
Do you really think that they take the profits from cosmetics and turn around and say “lets invest this in some really cool content to thank the fans?”
No, they take that money and say “hey, the cosmetics are making us money, lets put more money into making more and more cosmetics until they stop making more money, then we’ll drop the game.”
Man, seeing the new wolf head shoulders, snow horns and whatnot gharish cosmetics just makes it more and more obvious how much Infinite needs a cosmetic toggle.
Even just looking at videos like Crowbcat’s latest video ‘Remember Halo’ with a 930k view count. It’s very obvious that Infinites growing list of ridiculous cosmetics is just a part of the bigger picture.
Halo Infinite really needs to cater to those who enjoy it’s world and what made the franchise great to begin with. As I’ve said in my own QoL & Identity thread, the game keeps reminding you it is one instead of just letting you enjoy it.
I still think a cosmetic toggle that follows 343’s own categorisation of cosmetics is a necessary QoL feature that will help improve player retention and the overall experience for all players. Those that enjoy the wacky cosmetics get to keep them, those that don’t are indulged also.
Simply, 343 needs to apply a toggle that allows cosmetics listed as manufacturered by FOTUS/343 Industries or Fractures to be disabled from view both in game & pregame lobbies.
(Fracture coatings/visors exempt). I think this is a simple & impartial cosmetic toggle that would just cover the stuff that obviously doesn’t fit into the fiction. (Bunny ears, all effects, cat ears, cards, teddy bears, kill effects & various charms/skins & coatings.)
That way, there’s no net negative anytime something new is added to the game.
Everybody wins. 343 and all of us.
Even in what’s “canon” there’s a lot of obnoxious skins. What I’d really want to see is two things:
-
A setting to disable all weapon customization. Everyone looks like they are using default guns (including removal of kill effects)
-
A setting to disable the team outlines and just color everyone’s armor Red and Blue instead
Given the game’s monetization is built around selling these customization items I highly doubt something like this would ever happen, but that would definitely get me more interested to play Infinite.
God, yes, please!!!
One of my number one issues with this game is that the game respects everyone else but me!
If you want to have a neon yellow Bulldog with a jangly keychain in it, well okay, I don’t understand that, but the game supports you in that, so you do you. But how come if I chose to have a plain black Bulldog with no attachments, when I pick up the gun, it doesn’t change to my color? I have everyone else’s crap inflicted upon me.
Worst yet are the kill animations. How are you going to let people pay to inflict this absolute yoink onto other players?! I mean, it’s one thing to have all of these dumb effects to customize yourself, but why are you allowed to impose it on other players? So much of the periphery of this game’s design is just misanthropic.
I have to agree. Its extremely ironic that these forms of ‘customization’ infringe on others experience but at the same time those users are having extremely emotional takes against a toggle because they feel it would impact their own. Its just an admission of lopsided selfishness.
I was originally opposed to a cosmetic toggle because of the fact that you buy cosmetics for the sole purpose of being seen, but the game feels like Fortnite at this point. Before, cosmetics were usually pretty chill, if non-canon, but now we’ve got the Marlin T. Buckets ears, the Reavian Reaper pauldrons, and all kind of flashy annoying gross looking stuff on our Spartans. I don’t even want to know what they’ve added since I gave up Infinite two months ago. A cosmetic toggle makes sense now.
343 also knows perfectly well how to do this too. They made Helioskrill and Yoroi which both are unique but still fit the Halo art style and tone.
Many of these armors just don’t fit the tone and make Halo goofier than its setting allows. This causes armors to then break immersion for others.
A toggle allows boths sides to coexist peacefully.
“Just” add loadouts where you can save all the armor pieces, coatings, emblems, ai, stance etc. and then just select it from the list, instead of having to change every single thing over and over again. I said “just” because I know it’s waaay too much to ask for.
You really think something like this would happen if they can’t even get a „save as default“ button in the order menu? Going every freakin time through the menu to list your items form high to low or date acquired is so frustrating that I often don’t even use new stuff because finding them is so annoying. How a system like this gets a) designed and b) approved is beyond my understanding. But maybe some evil higher up is responsible for this too ![]()
