Im in the camp that believes that because of the didact’s poor reception 343 decided to remove him BUT they wanted to keep the story as unchanged as possible so they figured that cortanna could replace him. People like cortanna they think that making her the antagonist would be that grey area thing they want so cortanna was chosen.
Jul could have been a good side villian and we could have precusors come in as the main. Flood could have returned as well. but thats gone.
Too bad 343 cant go in the direction people wanted. Chief going against ONI = grey area instantly if done HTT style.

The original speech did take place after the pre-human forerunner war, so I’m not sure if Cortana would know anything about it, except if she merged with the digital didact. I don’t think she’s being possessed though.
It’s confirmed that this Cortana is the same one we know and love from Halos CE-4. While I’m still reluctant to accept that, what I’m not going to accept is that Cortana reached the conclusion she did by the end of Halo 5 on her own.
SOMETHING had to have influenced her to do this madness because I refuse to believe the same Cortana that sacrificed everything for Chief and Humanity would suddenly turn a cold shoulder on them.
