For the first time in a video game something actually shocked me in a frightening way. When the camera went to Cortana angrily saying “I WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO LEAVE THIS PLANET!!!” It actually gave me a frightening chill.
Did anyone else get shocked by Cortana freaking out?
Also, why is she still solid? Pleas 343, give us a reason for why a hologram is solid.

Speaking on her being “solid.” If you remember in Halo Wars the AI on the Spirit of Fire appeared more solid than Cortana did in the previous Halos. Seems like she more matched that transparency.

I know it was bound to happen, I know how Halo AI’s work, just seeing her face, body gestures, and tone of voice was -Yoinking!- terrifying.
Being a fan who has read all of the novels and played all of the games, it makes sense, but I think it is a very smart decision for 343 to exploit the relationship between her and MC. I expect the best storytelling in the entire series from 343. Hopefully the story being told is also the best, but the delivery should prove the best. Imo.

If we all remember the parts from Halo 3, the visions and random spouted nonsense we deemed it at the time. Was most likely the start of her 7 year expiration and from exposure to Gravemind and Forerunner tech.
I have a feeling if they don’t cut her out of the picture in Halo 4, she will continue further down this psychotic Rampage(In 5-6) and Chief might have to terminate her or find a way to stabilize her again with Forerunner Tech…if it’s possible.

I get the odd feeling that she’s talking to Chief, too.
I’m calling it right now: Cortana’s going down in Halo 6. MC will have to put her down.
Either Chief will have to put her down in 4 or he’ll try to find some way to save her. It would be bold killing off Cortana so soon, but than again it’s not unprecedented. Just look at George R.R. Martin’s*“A Song of Ice and Fire”*. Putting her down could work, but it has to be handled carefully if 343i decides to go down this road.
I knew they’d work with the concept of her going rampant, but that little glimpse is a tad unnerving. Can’t wait to see more.

i was thinking along the same lines, i was thinking maybe something or someone has hacked or infiltrated her and its speaking through her, might not be but its a thought.
In past Halo games Cortana has always been calm so of course I freaked a little when she yelled and looked like a zombie. I am so excited to see what happens to her.
They’ve already said that she looks more solid simply because of graphical upgrades. It’s just more obvious with Cortana.
I think Cortana’s rampancy could leave her vulnerable to some extent, and she could be utilized by the enemy to lure the Chief places they want. Just speculation, though.

That’s a good observation, having to terminate Cortana yourself in a battle would be a very intense and emotional sequence in the game.
Killing Cortana, now that would be a bold move 343. It almost seems inevitable.

The level of Graphics doesn’t have anything to do with transparency. Its probably another artistic thing, but I still hope there is a canonical reason for a solid hologram.
