CORTANA'S COVENANT

If there will be old Covenant races that joined Cortana,i would like to see something new in presentation of this on going enemies that we see in every Halo game. They definitely need an upgrade in their combat AI and need to have some personality in them,to not just be cannon fodder bots.If they would serve Cortana they should be given better weapons and armor from her. Also there could be some higher ranking individuals that could at least have a name and some background story to them. What do you guys think about possible encounters with old enemies?

I partially agree. I don’t see why they need new weapons and armor, but I definitely want to see a new Covenant fleshed out. They’ve been kind of boring since Reach. No notable individuals within the Covenant, no personality in the individual units, and lackluster design overall.

I just dont see as to why Cortana would like to have biological beings joining its ranks given it already has army of machines that are of the tier 1 technology when its goal seems to be galaxy wide rule with an iron fist by disarmament.

It just seems like that old machines trying to save creatures from themselves by basically forcing a peace. It might sound weird but that is the basics.

The problem with that in Halo universe is that with disarmament the biological creatures wouldnt have a way to defend themselves from flood for example.

She probably would be too protective of those who join her, so any organics that would serve as military would have a very powerful ability, or were slaves due to being forced to join. (I find the slave part unlikely, the prometheans and sentinels could get the jobs she needed done even more effectively then organics, otherwise her ideals are flawed and she would show weakness.)

If anything, cults would rise up in her name to fight along side her.

I just dont see that even if they would have forerunner technology at their disposal Cortana would still likely think of them as unpredictable and therefore best left unarmed beings with the rest of them.

I’m sure she has most of the species in her Covenant, but idk about the Drones.

But Cortana called beings of all species to join her in the campaign, in Halo 5 I think

That could have been about willingly to give up before she turns everything that opposed it dark.

We’ll fight some form of the Covenant in this Game. I have no doubt about that. Just fighting Prometheans (and potentially Flood) wouldn’t be that much fun.

thr former Covenant races would probably join her for fear of being killed. Some may join willingly though.

I hope we get some Fleshed out enemy characters similar to Tartarus and the Prophets in the original trilogy.

On the point of AI, I have always thought the covenant was way more fun than the Prometheans ever were in that department. With Prometheans it’s always just attack the watcher from afar first so they can’t provide shields or resurrect. Then take out crawlers to make a path before getting to the tanky knight. The covenant there’s always ways to mess around with the encounters and have them play out a bunch of different ways.

Also, we’ll absolutely be getting them back in some form. Assuming Cortana doesn’t have access to a composer I’m guessing she makes an alliance with Atriox and makes that her new main force with the justification of only having a finite supply of Prometheans.

I could see the Banished acting as the Covenant replacements in the next Halo game, but not as Cortana’s allies.

I’m hoping the…created? forces are entertaining to fight at least.
343 could take inspiration from Binary Domain and have them relentlessly attack you even after blowing their limbs off, or have an enemy that armors up after spotting you like the Guardian unit from Fall of Cybertron, encouraging stealth as appose to the usual run ‘n’ gun tactics. Anything that varies up the gameplay tbh.

She doesn’t mention hunters or drones

She doesn’t mention lekgolo or yanme’e? Wonder why

Maybe they communicate diferently.I’m not sure how Prophets got those 2 species in their ranks, but im sure it was explained somewhere.

I absolutely love how your thread title just presupposes the plot point that we all know full well is coming, haha.

I don’t mean that sarcastically, dead serious. You’re absolutely right. That’s what they’re going for here. Whether Cortana’s faction continues to be called the “Created”, or whether they call themselves the “Covenant”, or the “Ecumene” (the name of the ancient Forerunner empire), or even something else entirely… it’s all the same thing, it’s the new evil oppressive empire that will have the galaxy on lockdown putting humanity back to being the underdogs again, trying to recapture the feeling of the original trilogy. Same thing Star Wars did with Episode 7 and the First Order. And it’s a virtual foregone conclusion some of the ex-Covenant races will ally with her.

Remember there was a Canon Fodder a very long time ago confirming the Unggoy (Grunts) already have. (Or at least, were seriously thinking about it.)

One would think she would have all sorts of new Forerunner toys for them to fight with. That’s how we got the idea for the Grunt Mech in H5 after all.

Since Cortana called out a bunch of Covenant species in Halo 5, I hope we get to fight Prophets.

Well the Unggoy are already running amok with their newfangled mechs thanks to Created technology.
