Cortana?

I’ve seen the teaser trailer with her voice.
Please tell me Cortana is back. Not the evil construct gone wrong, but the good old Master Chief partner in crime.
Does anyone have any info or guesses as to her role in the game?

No info released yet aside from the two trailers and the audio easter egg so far. But I imagine her role in the game will be as primary antagonist. After that easter egg, it certainly seems possible that we will be dealing with multiple fragments of the OG Cortana, but that’s mostly speculative at this point.

Really? From the sound bite I heard it sounds like she’s back as a protagonist.

I hope I’m right and you’re wrong.

After halo 4 i wish they just left her character alone, maybe rather create a new one than bringing characters back from the dead

We don’t know anything confirmed. A popular fan theory is there’s multiple Cortana’s and the one that you hear in the Discover Hope trailer is the good one whereas the one in H5 is the bad one. Another popular one is there’s only one Cortana but she has logic plague.

I get why you want Cortana to be protagonist again, but really, H5 happened. We have to accept that that is part of the story of Halo going forward. We can’t just ignore it and make Cortana the protagonist again (not to mention that would negate large swaths of H4’s story as well). Once we accept that, then we can start speculating on how to fix the train wreck that was H5’s campaign.

One way to do that is explore the fragment angle. That way, we have the “evil Cortana” that emerged in H5 facing off against the Chief and a “good Cortana” fragment that somehow was recovered by the UNSC. While the issue of fragments gets a bit confusing (and sometimes a bit ridiculous imo), it’s one of only a few ways to get the story of Halo back on track.

I still have faith that we will get the Cortana we all know and love back  It may be a rough ride but it’ll happen. Hopefully.

It would be super interesting if they had two different Cortanas.

It’s looking like there may be a “Clone” Cortana as alluded to in Halo 4 who will potentially serve as an ally to Chief in the game, as we see on the AI chip in the trailers so far.

The original Cortana is much more likely to occupy the central antagonist role in this game, however, based on the narrative loose ends from Guardians.

Too early to say anything for sure, though.

I kind of want 343 to stick with their guns and not backtrack on their story.

Lets be real if Cortana was to turn ‘‘good’’ again 343 would have to change the lore or introduced some kind of McGuffin what people would hate.

It also sounds way to Disney and childish like imo.

I stopped playing Halo during Halo 4 because I found out about the ending.
Tried Halo 5 because I heard Cortana might be back. I returned it without playing it at all really.

I will wait to buy Infinite until I find out how she will be back. Not a pre-order for me.

The only way that I’m buying is if I know for sure that we get the old Cortana back. Sorry if that sounds corny but life is hard enough without having to see one of my favorite game characters turned bad right in front of my eyes. It’s much too depressing for me. I need to play games that cheer me up… not bring me down and depress me. I like to play games that give me hope that things can actually turn out okay.

Life is hard. I could really use a “Good Cortana” in it to help me out a little.

I hope we all get one. I think we could all use a little “Good Cortana” in our lives.

I could do without the “good” Cortana because I’d like to see the character actually treated with a modicum of respect. Her character arc was complete with Halo 4. Turning her evil was stupid and trying to make things like they used to be would be a black mark on the story. She’s responsible for so much suffering now, even if she’s fixed or cured NOBODY should trust her immediately, especially the Chief.

My dream is that the entirety of Halo canon after Halo 3 is just a dream Master Chief had after going to cryo-sleep at the end and Cortana’s right there with us.

I think it all depends on how they handle it.

I don’t see many ways to handle it well. I mean, Cortana betrayed Chief’s trust. If he just partners up with him again like nothing ever happened then I don’t think I could take the story seriously.

It seems like there are two different Cortana models in Halo Infinite.

From what I saw in the teaser, and what I’ve read on this post, Cortana does seem to be making a comeback. How her role is going to effect the Halo Infinite storyline is beyond me. With how her character was portrayed in 5, I’ve got a feeling that one way or another, she’s going to become the villain in Halo Infinite, and it’ll be up to the Master Chief to save the known universe, and this time, for good. Then again, it’s too early to tell until more info is released/game trailers come out next year.

That makes it worse. It just looks like resetting the status quo and making all of Cortana’s development over the years pointless.

Okay, here’s “A Retcon from Hell itself” theory about the Infinite Trailer…

Continuing to “Hunt The Truth”, perhaps players should “Seek the truth. Behold the truth. Reveal the truth” about the Halo Infinite Trailer (link at bottom), and spot any “SPDR” in Chief’s Visor booting up info, spot the timeslip of the Pilot’s hair and beard growing in the time it takes for the hologram to play, and so see the double meaning of “an adult speaking to a child-like fragment” in the hologram, even as when in the Trailer asked “How big are you?”, the child-like voice says “I’m baby you!”, and even how an audio clip of Cortana turned up on a website in 2019, and all will become clear…

https://halo.fandom.com/wiki/Seeker .

Then, as per Halo 3’s Opening (below): we see Chief with locked up armour, an empty Cortana Chip, and Johnson’s “Where is she Chief? Where’s Cortana?” (because we haven’t rescued her from the crashed Didact’s ship yet), complete with Cortana monologue where Halo 3’s “Was I wrong?” becomes Halo Infinite Trailer’s “I was right!”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkYEnc4I_no .

Now a whole new meaning appears in “FOUND YOU! Hide and SEEK’s over, Infinity!” (The “Seeker AI” pretending to be Cortana appears on the Infinity Bridge at the end of Halo 5, just before trying to destroy the Infinity with a Guardian).

In the Infinite Trailer then, from the “I Love Bees” style “Seeker AI” pretending to be Cortana (rather than SPDR) in Halo 5, to rescuing the real Cortana from the crashed Didact’s Ship (instead of High Charity in Halo 3) to help Chief “Finish the fight” in Halo Infinite, it’s now Cortana versus the “Seeker AI” imposter and the hidden enemy she serves, before the entire human race is wiped out?

https://youtu.be/ogGAbjpgDYY?t=68 .

The “I Love Bees” style Cortana audio clip found on a website in 2019. But note the difference with the Trailer, as this Cortana speaks after the footsteps and after Chief removes the Chip. So, between the Trailer and the Audio Clip, if one Cortana is real and the other fake, which one is which?

Cortana Audio Clip .

Hope this helps…

I would be curious to see how “evil Cortana” reacts to it.

I agree with you, but at this point I’m just hoping that they can pull it off so that the story isn’t a disaster.
