Cortana? Who cares... (Edited)

I have to say, up until this point, Halo 5 speculation has been save cortana this, and save cortana that. Chief very well could be trying to bring Cortana back, but the milky way is a big freakin galaxy. The covenant is a big freakin alliance (even though it’s a shadow of its former self. ONI is huge and very secretive. Mysteries of the forerunners and what remains of them are intriguing. I know one dude who straight-up said that he won’t even buy Halo 5 because Cortana. I wouldn’t mind having her back, BUT I have realized that the very Halo universe and what it has to offer is so much more than the ai known as cortana.

Side Note: The very first time I beat Halo 4, I wasn’t very sad at all at her “death”. Heck, I just thought of her staying behind in some sort of digital real (something like that).

Edit : Chief got Cortana around the start of the fall of reach (July 24 2552) By the time you factor in the amount of time between Halo 2 and Halo 3, some time is shaved off. The war ended sometime before March 3, 2553 (7 months after Chief got Cortana). Next, Chief was in cryo for 4 years and 7 months, so more time is shaved off. Finally, Cortana “died” a few days after Chief finally was reawakened. What I’m getting at, is that Cortana isn’t the lifelong sidekick that people think she is. What I’m really getting at, is that Chief can certainly survive without her.

I honestly could care less if Cortana ever comes back, but without her, there wouldn’t be a lot of reason for Chief to interact with anyone. Maybe Halsey will be his new companion (via intercom).

I’d be pretty excited if freakin mendicant bias himself hopped into Chief’s head. Imagine some deep/electronic voice talking to you and informing you of what to do (although that is so far fetched that people would think I’m insane, or a moron).

Reclaimer, we must hurry, Ur-didact approaches (Insert your version of what mendicant bias would sound like here).

People who think Cortana should be revived don’t understand how storytelling works.

I honestly agree with you. I’ll stick with Halo until the end. I will be freakin devastated when/if Chief dies, but Halo’s universe is so much more than Chief.

There’s a few well developed characters in the Halo Games as of right now and Cortana is definitely one of them

That being said, there could be legit story reasons for bringing her back. The librarian mentioned how Chief, as well as his AI Cortana, were the culmination of many years of careful planning on her part. Cortana could be the key to something bigger, and Chief might be trying to get that piece of her back. Who knows, it’s just a thought. Also remember the Halo trailer at E3 years ago when Chief was walking in the desert and gripping Cortana’s chip prior to awakening that Forerunner being. Clearly what he was about to do and why he was there had something to do with her. But yes, in terms of a character development standpoint for Chief’s personality and character, Cortana is no longer necessary, as he has been forced to deal with his separation from her as well as ponder the words she spoke to him about being a machine vs being human.

Yet I wonder if Halsey herself couldn’t replace Cortana in this regard. Cortana is special, yes, but Halsey is where she comes from and thus Halsey would have the characteristics that make her special. The Librarian was adamant she get to the Absolute Record, maybe there is something there that can make Halsey into an AI like Cortana? Would certainly be poetic.

Cortana mentioned in Halo 4 that Halsey could recreate her, but it still wouldn’t be her. She would be different. In terms of dramatic storytelling for the sake of character arcs (including Cortana’s), I would highly doubt that Cortana simply gets recreated. Chief would need to do something extraordinary to bring her back in the true sense, otherwise it would be kind of anti-climactic.

If they bring her back, I just hope there isn’t some kind of weird romance between her and Chief. The Hook-esque moment of Cortana becoming life size and touching Chief’s chest was a bit weird as it was. Leave it to a deep loving friendship, or don’t do it at all. Also, they could tone down the -Yoink!- and nudity. It’s gone from interesting to ridiculous with each iteration in the series.

I also find it no coincidence that in the game where they kill Cortana, they put a lot of emphasis on Halsey for the first time in the series (other than Reach). It’s probably 343’s way of making the story and chief’s character more “human”. The stakes are a lot higher when it’s a human being that chief loves and respects, but that can also die and not be resurrected. Cortana was simply an AI clone of Halsey, so I would’t be surprised to see Halsey replace Cortana.

I think there’s too much s**t going on for Dr. Halsey to really be a companion for Chief, at least in Halo 5. He is clearly on the run, so there’s no time for this.

Well, Halsey and Jul are on there way to the Absolute Record and at least a few Spartans will go there in a future Halo: Escalation issue. And with Chief just vanishing, who knows where he is.

But he and her are basically searching for the same thing; answers regarding forerunners. Halsey is no idiot, and she probably will find out soon what Chief’s role in the mantle of responsibility is, and he will probably garner the title traitor (or at least begin his path to be at odds with ONI and the UNSC) by rescuing Halsey and running off with her rather than turning her over to the authorities. The two of them need each other. There’s zero chance that their paths don’t cross in 5 at some point.

I have a feeling Cortana might never play a big role again in the series, but I feel like when Master Chief visits place we they’ve been she will show up one more time.

Yeah, Cross paths maybe, but When the campaign is sliced clean in half between Locke and Chief, is there really time for Halsey to do much. A fragile old doctor isn’t going to do a whole lot of good tagging a long with a battle damaged Chief who is clearly on the run.

Rumor had it that part of the campaign involves chief exploring planets in the galaxy by a ship he hijacked from the UNSC. It’s possible that she stay aboard the ship and provide tactical assistance and explain information from Chief’s suit similar to the way Cortana did through the HUD. I’m not saying that’s what is going to happen, I’m just saying it’s definitely possible.

When you think about it, Halsey is all Chief has (except for Arbiter), and Chief is all Cortana has. They are otherwise totally alone in the universe. It makes sense to pair them together.

That is such BS. This isn’t metroid. Chief is clearly looking for something very specific, and he isn’t going to gallivant around the galaxy. Besides, with half of the campaign dedicated to Locke, that wouldn’t work well.
